Thank you for the great article and all the information, it's definitely something "We the people" should be aware of. Would have been nice to get it a little earlier though, so us Americans could actually voice our opinions to the government (even though it wouldn't have done any good).
So what's the process of getting rid of the FCC?
...
Um, you were paying attention right? If the FCC didn't exist, then these companies could do whatever the fuck they wanted--something you presumably wouldn't like based on the first part of your statement. So then why the second part of your statement? Really, the two are dissonant.

Yep. It's like claiming the EPA isn't needed because Bush keeps appointing oil and lumber company executives to run it. We need the FCC. We just need them to be run by people who aren't completely opposed to its purpose.
I'm starting to think they peel off of Karl Rove's body, slither away to do their own damage to the country and will later return to the mother Rove, with which they will merge in time for The Rapture.
I keep telling you; the Rapture already happened. That's why you guys are left with all the crap Republicans and fundies; God already took all the nice ones.

A bitterly divided Federal Communications Commission today approved a controversial new rule that loosens regulations on ownership of newspapers and broadcast stations in the same city.
The FCC voted 3-2 along partisan lines to ease a 32-year-old ban on so-called newspaper/broadcast cross-ownership. The plan crafted by FCC Chairman Kevin J. Martin would permit such combinations with some limits in the nation's 20 largest markets and allow them in some smaller markets if companies can show they will produce at least seven more hours of local news a week and are needed to help the media outlets survive.

Also, the word 'Media' has been changed to ClearChannel.

The fact that Martin thinks more rampant conglomeracy will
ensure "competition, localism and diversity."
flabbergasts me. Does he even know what those words mean?
The problem that this causes used to be regulated by the fairness doctrine which was abolished during the Reagan presidency. It stated that broadcasters had to tell both sides of the story, not just the side they favored so that public opinion wouldn't be tampered with by reporters.

Methinks you need to research that a little better.
The FCC needs the Phoenix treatment. It's been bad news for decades. This is a really bad step, though, on top of it all.
Further proof of the fact that we need independent media: Within the first 15 minutes of the National News tonight (ABC) there is a long headline topic about the Spears trashery (version 2.0), but no mention of the Lakota Nation seceeding from the U.S.

I am glad I don't watch TV news. I probably would have snapped from such dumbassery and hurled a rock through the screen.
