If McCain would quit pretending to the "Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!" mentality and actually live it...well, he wouldn't win, but I'd damn well salute his integrity.

I think Evil McCain needs to grow his goatee out so that we can tell he's from the mirror universe.

Good idea. It's worked for others ...

did anyone google mr. keith kerr (the retired brig. general guy)?
cause, oh shit. cnn certainly did not when they paid for his flight out to florida. turns out he's on hillary's campaign payroll in california. cnn is claiming ignorance... for what must be the fifth time this year- though in their defense they've fucked up on all sides, so they're not looking as biased as they really could be right now.
and that right there is what made it the most ridiculous for me.
(this is not an attack on anyone but cnn)

Yeah, it was sloppy, but I'm not quite getting the outrage or how this demonstrates bias.

Do you think his question was unfair? If not, what does it matter who asked it?

CNN looks incompetent, not biased.

i wasn't meaning to say that they do look biased. i think if everytime they fucked up this year it was on one side or another they would look biased. so yay for them being fucked up in a nonpartisan manner.

and yeah. i think the person asking the question can certainly take away credibility.

lastly. my only point here is that cnn is full of a bunch of fucktards; not that they're biased.

Meh. It's a bit of a tu quoque but asking for non-fucktardedness in TV news is a bit of a tall order. I wish more US cable services would pick up BBC 24 Hour.

I watched a few replays of the debate this weekend because I like watching these idiots lose. Of course, I'm not psyched at the prospect of President Hillary...

To be honest, I think CNN set the candidates up to look stupid by throwing nitwit questions at them and then giving them too little time to answer.

I mean really, in one of the video questions the guy asks about gun control and then someone THROWS HIM A RIFLE from off camera, he cocks it, and then says "Don't worry, you can answer however you like".

Hilarious.

I am always amused when gun lobbyists demonstrate they aren't responsible gun owners.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
The alternative, of course, is that the rifle wasn't loaded and the whole thing was a stunt.
Cunning, very.

Quite so. And in fairness, Duncan Hunter was quick to point out that throwing a firearm like that is unsafe, but the whole episode just struck me as a perfect example of the characteristic dumbfuckery of the YouTube debate format.

So here's what I'm thinking... the SG collective pools their funds to buy an island, right? And then all of our news articles can be about how fucking awesome we are compared to the rest of the world. Personally, I think it's a brilliant plan.

Nah, we'd probably still just argue most of the time. That's why we're here, after all wink Then a troll would get killed, and we'd have a big debate about whether or not a troll is considered a real person, and wrap it up by calling eachother "morans" and trying to flag eachother. Then we'd go get drunk.

Come to think of it, let's buy an island! biggrin

I didn't watch it, but I read Salon's coverage of it.

Retired Brig. Gen. Keith Kerr gets in front of his webcam to describe his 43 years of service to the nation. Then he drops this bomb: "I'm an openly gay man." He asks the candidates why they think American men and women in uniform are not professional enough to serve with gays or lesbians.

This sounded like a good question, though you didn't mention it, so maybe it only sounds good being read.

cnn was worthless. they tried to portray republican voters as gun nuts and religious psychos ( the bible guy was especially sick).

Have you read/seen the conservative presence on youtube? I'd say if that's all they came off as, they were being courteous. If YouTube is an accurate portrayal of how people really are, then God help us all.

FearTheReapersaid:
There were some interesting and effective questions asked, but they were few and far between. CNN attempted to make the debate “entertaining” and ended up creating an arena of shame.

I remember once turning CNN on they were playing Spice Girls in the background or something ridiculous. Up until a few years ago, CNN was really the only accessable 24 hour US news source for Canadians in the area I lived. Friends would comment to me about how awful it was, especially when the Iraq war started. They found it unbelievable when I mentioned a lot of Americans thought it was overly liberal.

I don't know if we get Fox News up here yet, but I can't imagine the reaction.

Oh, we get it. But most cable boxes and satellites have a block function, so it all evens out in the end wink
