The listing status of seven animal species being denied protection under the Endangered Species Act will be reconsidered after the United States Fish & Wildlife Service acknowledged in a letter to Rep. Nick Rahall that the original rulings had been influenced by politics, specifically by a civil engineer, Julie MacDonald, who knew nothing about endangered species.

Rep. Nick Rahall, D-W.Va said:
... that MacDonald, who was a civil engineer, "should never have been allowed near the endangered species program." He called MacDonald's involvement in species protection cases over her three-year tenure as an example of "this administration's penchant for torpedoing science."

Affected by the reversal are the Preble's meadow jumping mouse (which makes me wonder why our common name "human", is so boring), the Canada lynx, the white-tailed prairie dog, the arroyo toad, the Hawaiian picture-winged fly, and the California red-legged frog.

Story here!

the Canada lynx,

Fuck that. I only care about American endangered species, goddammit. Buncha hockey-loving canuck kitties coming over here and taking spots on our endangered species list? Over my dead red-legged frog!

Protect the borders, people. It's the only sane way!

They can take their geese back, that's for damn sure.

I think this wins the award for weirdest CE title of 2007.

That said, I'm glad the rulings are being reviewed.

Is that bad?

Likewise. It seems to be customary, with this administration, to appoint someone absolutely guaranteed to screw things up wherever possible.

Have I given that impression?

Yeah, this administration is all about the captive regulatory agencies. It's like the mafia running the police department.

Hm. Not sure, but I got it from somewhere. Possibly my Silliness reflexes are getting mixed up with my CE. Apologies.
