Actually, I agree with Senor Crisp. It's fucking annoying. I'm actually tempted to put you on ignore so I don't have to see it with every damn post.

Christ, you people are cut throats.

Perhaps.

If you are in fact "an avid reader and full-time writer", then perhaps you should be more in " the loop with what' current in literature right now" and lay off the boorish droning as an excuse to spam.

I wrote this for SG in mind, it's not spam. I don't need to be in the loop with what's current, it doesn't matter. I'm too busy making money writing to do that.

Perhaps if you weren't so busy whining about how out of touch you are and spamming on porn site message boards, you could you know, like, read a book.

You have no reason or basis for that sort of comment, pal.

Yes, I do. Plenty of reason. Reason, I have its.

Spam is in the eye of the beholder. You consider it your signature, because you're the one posting it. Readers on this board see it, and feel it is spam. It could also fall under the stated term "unauthorized advertising".

Whether or not you consider it spam or advertising, I can pretty much guarantee you that as long as you continue to sign your posts with your web addresses, then many members (not just myself and MrCrisp) will continue to hound you about it. The simple fact is, that it is taboo in this community.

If they meant us to use signatures, there would be a signature function in the board code.

And...boy, I can understand the doomsayers who go on about the decaying intellect and watchability of the average entries in the fields of television and movies (although I think there's still enough to keep me satisfied on those fronts), but books? You must be really goddamn picky, because for me, I can't keep up with all the goodness I want to read. And I work at a library and can read at a rate of 1-2 pages per minute, depending on the book, so that's saying something.

No, really, it's spam when you post it to the boards endlessly. Leave the URLs your journal where they belong.

It's spam. You're posting this here to generate traffic for your blog. Call yourself a professional writer all you want, but you know you're one step above junk mail.

Nope. I'm paying to be here. I like the community. I wrote this thing specifically to post on SG because I enjoyed reading the current events here and I only simultaneously posted it on my blog.

I comment on picture galleries and host a banner to SG on my site as well. I'm quite the contributer. Don't insult me over it. Yeesh.

It's painful to walk into bookstores or libraries because you wish you could just read everything all at once. That's how I feel about it.

Hey guy-who-has-been-a-member-less-than-a-month:

"I'm a paying member!" isn't going to get you far as justification for spamming the boards. Your four bucks a month means no more than anyone else's and a whole lot of people are giving you good advice.

If this is indeed the case, I would suggest getting rid of the obnoxious "signature" line linking to your blog. It's an asshole maneuver and reeks of attention-whoring.

Have you noticed how little attention has been paid to your post and how much attention is given to your sig? There's a reason for that. Your blog is full of sophomoric blather and so far your posts here are much the same. You're coming across as that kid at the back of the class who just learned how to grow a goatee and insists on nonchalantly (but secretly in earnest) interjecting his newly-discovered affected, marginally-literary, vaguely-HS Thompson/Hemingway-macho, pseudo-libertarian nonsense into every discussion regardless of the topic.

There is one of you in every English, Poli Sci and History 100 class in this country. It's tiresome.

Fantastic post. For some reason this semester's classes have been overrun by these peeps. The pain... oh the pain...

I'd like to reiterate my original post. Thanks.

And you're suggesting to relieve this problem by reading Proust? Perhaps we get them to read books that don't span some 3,200 pages first? Eh? Maybe starting with some Twain or Bradbury? Those were two of my favorite authors in middle school and I think they sufficed to perk my interest in literature.

And your signature still is lame.

Proust sucks.

But probably not as much as this grandstanding douche ThisWeekInDouche.

If he ever says "Don't tase me. Zoinks!" I vote that we consider him a bot.

I came to this thread late, I see...

If you're looking for a good book on this topic, try The Language Police by Diane Ravitch, she writes about education, and previously was assistant secretary of Education under Bush the elder, and was part of the NAGB, appointed by Clinton.

This book makes a lot of sense, and makes an eloquent argument. But I suppose the thrust is the same. You fill the schools with boring-as-hell books, and the kids will turn to the Television, because that demonic box shovels out exciting content.

For your further amusement, there are appendices of words and concepts banned from school readers and textbooks.

As an amendment to the "Demonic Box" comment... "Reading Rainbow" was pretty fun, but "Wishbone" can eat a dick wink
