I don't know why they didn't win the prize for Physics. I know Meteorology is not the same as Physics, but it fits better than the Peace Prize. Should Gore and the IPCC win a few more prizes from other organizations (ones that pertain more to Environmental Research) I think that'll shut up most of the critics. After all, water is a huge fuckin' deal, so I see the peace connection, but we need more people pointing out that the IPCC's science is sound.
Besides, there have been stranger years for the Nobel Peace prize. It's gone to Kissinger -who prolonged US involvement in Vietnam, and his Vietnamese counterpart refused the prize; Arafat -who carried a pistol for much of his adult life; and Theodore Roosevelt -who gained fame from the Spanish-American War and was an avid huntsman. If those three can get a Nobel Peace Prize, I think Al Gore and a group of scientists can get it for explaining how water scarcity can lead to conflict.
