Mitt Romney just needs to walk away. His run for the White House is becoming a joke. People in his own party are beginning to make brutal ads about his past and they certainly don't want a Mormon in the White House.

Maybe Mitt hasn’t noticed, but the Republican Party has been taken over by Christian lunatics over the past 15 years. Guess whom Christian lunatics don’t like? Mormons! Might have something to do with the church’s polygamy history. Also, there is some controversy about the year 1827, when Joseph Smith dug up some golden plates in New York that had been protected by the angel Moroni and engraved by Mormon, a pre-Columbian prophet-warrior. Because the plates were written in “Reformed Egyptian,” Smith translated them by looking through “seer stones.” Turns out God wanted him to “restore” Christianity. You can see how the influential Christians, like James Dobson, might take a pass on Mitt.

A big pass. A recent Newsweek poll revealed that 28 percent of Americans would not vote for a Mormon. I wonder how many of them are Republicans? The poll found that a Mormon president came in below a Jewish president and a black president. That is pretty low on the Republican ladder.

Yesterday, the Log Cabin Republicans came out with an ad attacking Mitt for his “Massachusetts values.” Taking out Mitt is an amusing tactic for a gay Republican, considering his history of supporting gay rights, but we are talking about Republicans. Gay or not, they are fucking weird.

Shit, now I want to vote for him! But this ad will only be airing in Iowa and on Fox News, where conservatives will see it and probably turn against evil Mitt. The Log Cabin Republicans claim they only want people to know the truth about Mitt because no one really knows what he believes.

Whether it’s taxes, immigration, education, gay rights, gun ownership, stem cell research, abortion, campaign finance reform, or other key issues, Mitt Romney has a long list of flip-flops. The American people don’t trust Massachusetts’s flip-floppers, whether they’re Democrats or Republicans.

As much as Governor Romney wants to re-invent himself, his record speaks for itself. The Mitt Romney of today is different from the Mitt Romney who was elected Massachusetts Governor and ran for the U.S. Senate. Romney may have forgotten what he used to believe, but Republicans won’t forget.

I wonder why they didn’t mention his history of supporting gay rights? That’s a weird thing to leave out.

Lastly, Mitt is not doing to well with the fundraising. Yesterday, the Mittman reported his campaign had brought in $18 million smackeroos. That is more than three times as much as the pathetic cult leader Ron Paul! Or is it?

Turns out of the $18 million Romney raised, $8.5 million came from a guy named Mitt Romeny. But that didn’t stop a campaign spokeswoman from talking about how great it was that he wrote himself a check, I mean, that tons of people support him.

Our campaign made considerable progress this quarter expanding Gov. Romney's support across the country ... Gov. Romney has built a nationwide network of volunteers and supporters that are energizing our efforts as we work towards the first votes being cast in January.

Just go away, you have no chance. And it’s getting a bit sad. Like, John McCain sad.

Democrats, however, should pray that he wins the nomination.

I felt the same way, up until they got to the gun control bit...

*sigh* I know, I'm in a bind. Where does a libertarian Democrat go to find someone who believes in protecting all of our freedoms, not just the "sexy" ones?

Same place a Libertarian Republicanish person goes...nowhere. I've got a fair idea of where I'm going, but I'm not there yet. Peace be the journey or something like that...
If would be alot easier to pick a candidate if they weren't all FUCKING IDIOTS.

What a very strange "attack" ad. I must agree with prior statements and say that is the first time I've seen any political ad that actually gave the desire vote for someone.

I've thought of a few ways to shange that...

First...what's with the sexy lady voice?..I think that voice over was done by the high school math teacher I had a crush on...she convinced me that I couldn't divide by zero or take the square root of -1...she could convince me to vote for a mormon too.

Secondly...if you are going to attack his values, better not to have quotes that support the OTHER SIDE...misquotation is the best way to insure a candidates downfall...instead of "I believe abortion should be safe and legal in this country" say "I believe abortion should be...the law in this country"

Finally, if you are going to invoke the holy name of Reagan, don't mention him being independent...make it appear that he was barely cognizant during that period or something...the way he says it he makes it sound like he was actually important then...and even if he was, nobody, especially voters, needs to know that! biggrin

I know virtually nothing about this whole thing, being British and all and only having a basic understanding of the whole presidential race thing, and I have even less knowledge of Mitt Romney, but doesn't that above quote mention the fact that he HAS supported gay rights (at least some of the time)? Whereas FTR seems to be claiming the Log Cabin Republicans deliberately omitted that part of his past policies.

A while back, a saw an article posted on the website of a right wing think tank analyzing the campaigns of the three GOP frontrunners for what they were doing wrong. The critique of Romney was that he shouldn't have tried to run as a social conservative, and instead should've run as a problem solver, with health care reform as his signature issue. The consistently centrist Romney would be someone I could support. The flip-flopper is someone I don't trust.
And I could give a fuck about whether he's a Mormon or prays to Cthulhu. Why is Mormonism an issue for Romney but no one made a peep about it when Orrin Hatch ran in 2000?

That is not from the ad, just an interview with one of the Log Cabin Republicans. If they really wanted to scare the right wing, they should have included his support of gay rights. But they did not. Because they are gay republicans. It's all very strange.

To everyone wondering about the ad, like FTR said, it's only going to be run in Iowa on Fox News. It's not going to make any of the people who actually end up seeing it want to vote for him. I can pretty much guarantee you that. But anyway, that's totally beside the point.

On topic: It sucks that his religion would be an issue, but then again he's running for the nomination of a party that ostensibly has very little tolerance of the "other"--gays/lesbians, muslims, mexicans (pretty much everything that's not white Christian and straight)**. Also, has there been any other Catholics since Kennedy? The American presidency isn't exactly a model of diversity. Maybe that will change a bit this time around. If he has any chance, he should do what that article said and address people's intolerance head on. But I think he's pretty much insignificant at this point.
