Wow, the life of a Jew in Iran sounds remarkably similar to every other Iranian.

Pretty much what I was thinking as I was reading that.

Something like 90% of the Jews who were living in Iran at the start of the Islamic Revolution have since left, either to Israel or to the United States.

So, wait. Members of another religion left when a different radical religion took over, you don't say? What happend to the Christians and the Druse and the Buddhists....get it?

We should have left well enough alone in Iran FORTY years ago instead of directly meddling in their state affairs and ignoring the will of their general populace. Then we wouldn't have drip-mouths saying "durrr glass parking lot durrr."

Wow, I do get it! Maybe it's possible that minority groups in Iran were targeted and persecuted when the "different radical religion" took over! Maybe that's why they all left! Doesn't sound like such a happy life to me, get it?

The reason there is one Jew in parliament in Iran is because there are only 20,000 Jews living in the country. And quite happily from what I have read. Or else they would have, you know, MOVED.

It isn't that easy for them to move and they aren't exactly happy. They just know not to open their mouths because it could get worse.

I suggest you read Imagine being a Jew in Iran.

But there are a few key paragraphs.

Several reports on human rights in Iran, including the most recent report issued by the US Department of State, have commented upon the reluctance of Iranian Jews to speak out on conditions affecting them

...

After the arrest of 13 Jews in Shiraz and Isfahan in March of 1999 on trumped up charges of spying for Israel and the United States, the Iranian Jewish Community leaders inside Iran (Parviz Yeshaya, Manouchehr Eliasi and Maurice Motamed) not only did not inform anyone on the outside world about the situation but became enforcers of silence asking Iranian Jewish leaders outside of Iran to remain silent as well.

...

On May 18, 2001, in a televised speech, Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, directly attacked the Jews, calling Jews the enemies of the prophet Mohammad and threatened the Jews with expulsion and expropriation of their property, citing a similar action taken by the prophet Mohammad against the three Jewish tribes in Medina in which they were annihilated. This attack, placed in the context in which the Jews of Iran were still feeling shock of the Shiraz show trials reveals the true feelings of the Islamic Regime toward the Jews of Iran.

...

The Jews suffer from official inferior status under Iranian Law and are not protected by police or the courts. The amount of financial compensation a Jew can receive from a Muslim in case of murder or accidental death of a relative is equal to one-eighth of that which would be paid if the victim was a Muslim.

...

All Jewish university students must pass a course on Islamic ideology. In general, the professors in these courses are, by definition, very dedicated to their ideology and many Jewish Students that I have interviewed have reported that attending such a course has been a humiliating experience, in which their religion has been ridiculed and trivialized. Jewish students who protest are expelled and blocked from entering the University. Jewish students have also reported that instructors have arbitrarily failed them to block their educational goals.

Little Hitler is a great guy. He's a peace loving leader of a nation where no homosexuals live. He's also a complete buffoon. His speech at Columbia probably proved that he's nothing but an ill-educated douche and we have little to fear from him.

Agreed, the we fucked up the world for us by supporting dictators and totalitarian governments... I believe that the term "blow back", or simply backlash applies here. Poor policies and poor choices by previous generations will be paid manifold by the following, it's the American way! smile

Enlighten us then. How is he dangerous?

You mean other than supporting and funding terrorists, engaging in a particularly sexist, oppresive brand of fundamentalist Islam, and attempting to aquire nuclear weapons, right?

We've supported terrorism, hell, we may still. We have nukes. We beat the war drum constintly, and hell, we have plenty of fundamentalist Christians. What's your point?

I don't think people remember that the only reason Al Quaida has so much military strength is due to arms and training from us. Yes you are correct there are a few governments with the same things that we claim Iran as being so bad for the only thing is most people don't know/care where their taxes go its pretty sad.

Also for everyone that forgets we're the last country that should have nuclear arms and lets remember we're one of the few countries that have acutally used those arms. If my recollection is correct we didn't ask anyone for permission to make and use them we made them and used it for an easy out to taking on a war on multiple fronts so it was more managable then we acted like we should be the determiner of who gets to have and/or use nuclear arms.

It's really sad how people act like they know whats right and wrong but never examined our trade relations. We're giving money and supplies to what could be considered terroist cells not to mention the countries that are breeding their own little hitler's that we are supporting. Its nice to know that you are one of the few people who see that and that I'm not the only one looking over some of these things people are writing and thinking ... wow....
