Sally, Sally, Sally, a real retarded statement.

On a sidenote, anyone remember that bit on The Man Show aout what would happen if a woman became president and they had the woman on her period bombing randon countries? It was funny.

Maybe next time you'll base your comments somewhere between reality and the fictional utopia in your head. Until then, I'd heed my own advise if I were you.

Well let's see if we can't figure this one out..

Brunei--Ruled by male Sultans for the last 500+ years.
Indonesia--Has had one female head of state in the last 60 years
Laos--Male presidents since the 70s, and its previous head of state all seem to all be men
Malaysia--Male presidents for the last 50 years
Myanmar (formerly Burma)--Male heads of state as far back as I could find
Philippines--Two female presidents out of the last 14
Singapore--All male presidents, an all male Sultanate before that
Thailand--Men
Vietnam--Men

Those are all near Cambodia. Any of them ring a bell?

I'll give her credit for indirectly quoting Robin Williams Live at the Met in '86. It made sense if you watch Brothers & Sisters, at least right up until the end. whatever

Personally, I think Sally's comment was the thing that was insulting and misogynistic, not the responses in this thread. Oh, except for this:

It's kind of amusing that so many people are taking what she said seriously. I mean, come on, she's a celebrity. Celebrities say stupid things almost as much as George Bush.

Did you miss the duelling whore threads? FTR claiming whores were all subhuman at the same time as Dr Bitch was implying prostitutes were all desperate women waiting to be exploited?

Each stayed very quiet re the other's point of view. confused

I'm anticipating a Batman/Judge Dredd style crossover thread.

People (the set of which presidents and celebrities are subsets) say stupid things with startling regularity.

Witness the CE boards for instance.

Sally isn't the first person to express this perspective and I for one am willing to give the concept a try in the US. Clearly women couldn't fuck it up any worse than men have.

See, I don't disagree. Nothing wrong with doing the experiment. I just think expecting miraculous effects like world peace or an end to poverty, famine and casual Fridays would be putting a bit too much of a burden on our future maternal overladies.

It's like a scavenger hunt. I need an Indian head penny, a rock that looks like a baby, and a functioning matriarchy near Cambodia.

i think that "experimenting" ( whatever ) would be a great thing- but people would expect world peace, and end to poverty, etc...and when it doesn't happen everyone will say : "see i told you a woman couldn't do it!"
no matter what, if a woman does improve alot of things it will never be good enough. but i would really love to see a woman in power.

I don't think anyone argued that women would be inherently incompetent in a world leadership position. The only people putting the burden of expectation of female leaders were the ones defending what Sally said. I personally wouldn't have any problem with a female president, but I'm not about to put her on a pedestal and expect her to issue in a golden age for humanity.

actually its true what she said. here's some proof....the only country in the world that has never had war either internally or with outside countries is one run by women. although its a poor third world country somewhere around cambodia, the inhabitants have enjoyed many years of peace and comfort (there being little to no poverty even though the country itself is poor) i for one am sick of men being offended by the fact that its other pig headed foolish men that have fucked this country to begin with. if you ran the government perhaps it would be different but be man enough to face the facts that sally field is right, if women ran the world there wouldn't be any war, period, motherfuckers!
