Oh, please. Racism is alive and well in the North. Racism is alive and well in the Midwest. Racism is alive and well on the East Coast, in Australia, in India, in Africa, in Europe, everywhere. As long as you pretend the problem is isolated in the "horrible" South, it will be alive and well right next to you.

You mean right next to him in Texas?

Of course. If you pretend the problem is the South, when the problem is clearly more widespread than that, you will never be able to solve the problem in the South (or anywhere else).

This problem is in the south. Stop being a half-wit.

Are you going to say that about the North the next time there's an article about Northern racism? It's just as bad every where as here.

Y'know, it isn't as bad everywhere as it is in the south.

I had a conversation with an older "gentleman" while having my tires changed at a pep-boy. Just watching TV and chatting about the local schools. He said that he was happy to get someone off the board because they were the "wrong color." Then he winked at me, as if we were sharing some white-folk joke.

It's not one-sided either, my mother lost a job at a school because they didn't "want no vanilla" in their "chocolate school." Lawsuit in progress.

That was Georgia.

Guess how much that happened in New York.

Sure, there is racism all over the nation, that I can't doubt. But here in the south it is settled deep in the every-day.

Sorry, I just get very mad when people say things like that.

Yeah my boss is African and racist. Dislikes blacks hates whites, as the only white there who I get alot of unnecessary crap from him. Racism in the south is not as black and white as you would expect. (sorry no pun was intended) But it clearly goes both ways down here and it's not something thats likely to end any time soon.

Because, of course, that is a relevant, personal experience relative to Jena, LA. Thanks for playing but, really shut the fuck up if you have nothing to add.

You know he's in Texas, right? You know Texas is in the South, right?

You can find the United States on a world map, can't you?

Oh, I see. You don't have an intelligent response to my point, so you try to insult me. Why don't you take a few minutes, think about my point, and try to understand it. Once you understand my point, you will realize that his location is completely irrelevant to my point.

Actually, it's your point that's completely irrelevant on account of the location.

Nice try, though.

Well, since you have no idea what you're talking about, I'm not surprised you also have difficulty comprehending others. Don't worry about paying attention to me. I won't hold my breath.

Just for the sake of form, however, I will attempt to enlighten you.

You freaked out over a guy in Texas criticizing Southern culture as endemically racist - a criticism provoked by the example of an incident in Lousiana.

You responded by going totally all off-topic about how racism is really everywhere and even "right next to" the guy in Texas. Your post had absolutely nothing to do with the incident under discussion, nor, apparently, do you have the remotest notion of who you were actually responding to or what his point was.

Now if you're still so dense as to think you actually have some kind of point to make, that's your problem. I wash my hands of the matter.

I'm so disgusted, I'm not sure what to say about this related story I saw this morning.

FBI reviewing anti-Jena 6 Web page.

The FBI is reviewing a white supremacist Web site that purports to list the addresses of five of the six black teenagers accused of beating a white student in Jena and "essentially called for their lynching," an agency spokeswoman said Saturday.

I caught that on CNN last night. They also had video of a couple of teenagers who were driving by groups leaving the protest the other day. On the back of their pickup the teens hung a couple of nooses. They were stopping in front of groups and trying to get a reaction. The police arrested them for trying to incite a riot. They were second generation klansmen.

Is this even legal? I mean I can't imagine this would count as protected speach, seems to be a threat to me.

The six kids should be in jail with attempted murder, end of sentence. 6 guys slam a kid's head into a wall then kick him while he's down for a while, then LEAVE him? You don't know how injured he is. He could have had a punctured lung or bleeding out. It's gotta be attempted murder. Skin color shouldn't matter, since 6 guys beating up one guy is on a whole other level than hanging some rope from a tree. Not to mention, the attack on Justin Barker was also a hate crime. But there's such a big racism double standard in this country people don't see black and white, they only see black.

Well, as I said, I don't know that those charges weren't warranted, however that version of the story both conflicts with the facts of the case that I've read and totally ignores every point that everyone's made about the inherent inequality of the treatment given to both groups. But other than that, good point.

Skin color shouldn't matter, since 6 guys beating up one guy is on a whole other level than hanging some rope from a tree.

Yes, that's all it was. Just a rope on a tree. Nothing else intended by that at all.

Not to mention, the attack on Justin Barker was also a hate crime. But there's such a big racism double standard in this country people don't see black and white, they only see black.

I know. It's like the white man can never catch a break in this country anymore. Why they gotta keep a honky down?

You don't understand, after they kicked the shit out of him, they LEFT him !

Whenever I kicked the shit out of someone in high school I always hung around and made sure they received proper medical attention.

Interestingly enough, the six kids probably are exposed to civil liability stemming from their negligence in leaving the dude after administering an ass-kicking.

It IS very important to be a responsible ass kicker and have a gentlemanly mercy for your opponent.
Unless they are a racist fuckwit. Then . . . discretion is more important.

Seriously, though. I think that the kid went to a school function that night says it all.
What was that function anyway ? A dance ? ( just curious, no bearing obviously)
