i tip my hat to my girl otoki

Damn straight. Her post was awesome.

There's at least two newswire editors who could use some actual discussion with actual sex-workers (e.g. the members of the sex workers group on this site) before they continue pontificating on the subject.

Wouldn't that be nice?

Hats off to Otoki, TheFuckOffKid and sixtyfootqueenie for all their intelligent posts.

.As (Well, I quit a few days ago, to I'm now and "Ex" Sex Worker) someone involved within the Adult Industry they have pretty much covered all the various points I was wanting to make on various subjects.

FearTheReaper I respect your opinion on the industry and those involved as a whole, and as part of being a human being and also a citizen of a country that promotes free speech you are entitled to your opinions upon the world and it's inhabitants.

Whilst I personally didn't feel the use of the word "Whore" was inappapropriate in the heading title, the continuation of the adjective in the newpost was probably taking it a little too far.

If the heading title did display: "FearTheReaper: Whores totally cool, Gay people not to so much" then I would see this thread (apart from the replies actually discussing the topic) as being an opinion piece and whilst I would not agree, it would be clearly stated that it is your opinion and I would have no objection to it whatsoever.

The fact that it is primarily a news piece, and although it it not a journalistic article headed for the New York Times or the Sydney Morning Herald, I do request that you objectively realise you may have a negative personal bias towards the industry. Keeping this in mind, actively refrain from using language that could be offensive to workers and those who are connected and keep the integrity of your writing.

For future reference, the words Prostitute, Sex Worker & Service Provider are the most commonly used terms to describe women who trade sexual services for money and are commonly used throughout the media, academic world and those involved in the profession. We also try and work towards getting a nuetral media reflection of our industry and many of us are aware that even postivie media can be misleading, but fight extremely hard to overcome predjudices and stereotypes that the words "whore, hooker, slut" invoke.

Saying that, I didn't find your article offensive in the least, but then I have developed a much more secure sense of self and peace with the actions I have taken. Whilst your article could be read as slightly skewed towards a negative, in a whole the piece itself is relatively harmless.

In regards to your personal opinions I do find them offensive, but they are not uncommon.
I tend to find they stem for many people from a negative experience with a worker in their personal life (such as a mother, good friend or relative working in the Industry much to the disappointment of their family) or in their professional life. If this has been the case, I hope in the future you are lucky enough to encounter one of the many wonderful women who inhabit the sphere of the adult industry and have the tolerance and open mindedness for them to show you that healthy, balanced, loving, compassionate women do exist and can work constructively in their chosen profession.

I've had to learn to live with ignorant hateful people....

one of the best quotes I've ever heard highlighting how retarded this world could be was.. someone once asked how full on it was for KD Lang to grow up being gay in the boonies of canada... and she remarked
"being gay was easy compared to growing up a vegetarian'

wherever you go there is someone perched at the ready to spew their hateful comments at you...

thats something I've learned being a sex worker.. and a vegetarian!

and might I say.. that reading posts like otokis and anepiphanys... sums up how I feel about the majority of sex workers i've ever worked with.. intelligent beautiful women with a realistic and respectful view of themselves and the world....

Thanks, I'm going to pass. I don't write to avoid offending people. Get over it.
