They booed Bill Nye? Those fuckers. I'm glad I live in the one bastion of culture in Texas.

These kids are spoiled. A terrorism school in their own city. I had to go all the way to Cobra Island to get my training.

to bring up a super minor point about the people who booed Bill Nye's insinuation that the Moon is merely reflective. Is it against the rules for god to use the powers of reflection to light us at night? It's a win/win situation. Science can still be correct, and you can still believe in God.

It really just goes to show that religious types don't want to hear anything outside of their narrow minded world view.

The religious right talk about the "culture of life" they represent. Clearly the represent the "culture of fear" instead. Fear has gotten to be such a force that even something as positive as this is seen in such light. It is beyond madenning now. It is just sad and depressing!

Holy shit! We're in trouble...6th grade terrorists will begin taking over every Chuck E. Cheese in the country and use them as terrorist training grounds too!!!

I think learning any language is cool. I myself am trying to decide between Chinese, Arabic, or Spanish to learn.

Well, basically, if you learn Arabic you become a terrorist, of course.
If you learn Chinese you automatically know kung-fu and love eating cats.
And if you choose Spanish your chest hair will grow overwhelmingly, and you'll never be able to button your shirts up correctly.
That's why I picked French; Now I just have this annoying mustache and an ego problem YOU STUPEED AMEREECAHNS!

Don't forget if I learn Chinese I'll also be a communist!

I know some Spanish already as I worked with several hispanic speaking folks and I picked some up along the way. But I also have a few friends who speak Chinese (Mandarin), so it's a toss up. Either way it would be cool.

Erm, dude - This is one of the most respected news organisations in the world, and they aren't the only people who have picked up on it. Idiots scaring children who are trying to get an education is news anywhere.

An if you learn spanish, you get a bunch of job openings in America, but Chinese is obviously going to be getting pretty important in the business world too, very soon.

On a side note, why don't they just not call it a Madrassa? Isn't teaching of the Koran pretty integral in your average Madrassa, like the bible is in Catholic school?

Not in a US State School.

May I play devil's advocate for a moment?

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

Now, what were we talking about?

My only concern with an Arabic school is where the text books are coming from. For example I would assume that most of the text books from Arabic speaking countries would not live up to our standards or mirror what our English text books teach. Other then that people are over reacting but then again when doesn't that happen.

Yeah, but I think a lot of people are assuming that since it is called a Madrassa, it is going to be a religious school anyway, even if it isn't. And most people are too lazy to actually find out.
