When the article is served with a side order of spicy hot "al Qaeda al Qaeda al Qaeda", can you really blame someone for crying "Propaganda"? This is the same strategy our President uses when he would like everyone to stop thinking and start fearing. Michael made a single note that this is "Al Qaeda in Iraq", but did not highlight the importance of that distinction .

Fear the Reaper is not cheerleading for either the Democrats or Republicans. Michael may have toned down the pro-war cries, but I believe this is still where he stands.

If you don't join us now, when Saddam's regime falls and Iraqis cheer the US Marines, you are really going to feel like a jackass.

A Liberal's Case for Bush's War
By Michael J. Totten

I don't feel like a jackass yet, and fair or not, his past writing has convinced me that anything he writes about Iraq should be considered propaganda.

Honsetly, if you're going to hold a grudge about something MJT said four and a half years ago, I'm not even sure why you're reading him.
Al qaeda is in Iraq. Whether Bush uses that to his advantage or not, it's a fact. That NYT editorial you've linked to (twice) fails to address that fact and instead suggests we bury our heads in the sand lest we sort of, accidentally, partially go along with something Bush might support.

this is total conjecture, but perhaps the reason why he isn't bashing the military in Iraq is because his life is in their hands every single day he spends there. they probably read his articles too. just a thought.

At no point did I suggest he bash the military. Don't make the assumption that I am against war, simply because I think this particular war was and continues to be a complete SNAFU. I supported the invasion of Afghanistan. We should have stayed there and hunted down, oh, what was his name, Osama bin Laden. I support our troops, my friends and some of my former students are stationed in Iraq. Despite their personal beliefs, they knew what they were signing up for, and they will execute as ordered. OhSoOrdinary mentioned in her last article,

Not everybody has so little to lose or so little care about losing it. Not everybody can afford to go to jail. Some soldiers have mouths to feed. Some soldiers have debt to pay off. Some soldiers want to look to the future and believe that if they bide their time they can achieve their dreams. That's kinda hard to do after you've spent x amount of years in Fort Leavenworth Penitentiary with a dishonorable discharge under your belt.

.

But they deserve better than this, a mission with a purpose and possibility of succeeding, rather than the face-saving "Stay the Course, or the terrorists have won" crap spewing from our leaders, as a justification for staying.
