I can't find a direct link, but it's on CNN video, under the title, "Bush on Gonzales resignation".

next theory.........'
perhaps Gonzo resigned now so that when congress reconveins in September and finally corners his ass on all of the illegal activities.......Bush can pardon him........can't pardon the AG for crimes committed as AG while he is still AG......... well maybe chimpy has a signing statement about that.......

Someone who understands how this administration thinks.

I wouldn't doubt this is too far from the truth.

I'll miss you Gonzo; you raised incompetence, and contempt for our justice system to an art form. No one will be able to "not recall" the way you do.

Quotes from bush's speech:

"Al Gonzales is a man of integrity, decency and principle."

"Under his leadership the justice department has... made enforcement of civil rights laws a top priority..."

"Aggressively and successfully pursued public corruption"

"It's sad that we live in a time when a talented and honorable person like Alberto Gonzales, is impeded from doing important work because his good name was dragged through the mud for political reasons."

Stewart and Colbert are going to have a field day with this.

Well, and of course now that Rove is looking for a job . . . sounds like a shoe in.

oh, thats beyond Chertoff scary............

I could be wrong, but I think you at least need to be a lawyer in order to be attorney-general. And if I recall correctly, Rove isn't even a college graduate.

There is no such constitutional requirement. He could appoint virtually anyone, in theory.

A practice he has polished to perfection.

Gonzales will never be indicted for anything relating to his tenure as Attorney General, nor should he be unless any substantial evidence of his commiting an actual crime is presented by his Democrat tormentors in Congress. Incompetence is not a crime. That having been said, his departure is welcome.

He lied repeatedly to congress. Prepare yourself for Gonzo in chains, holmes.

Gonzo, Rove, Craig - and that's just in the last week or so. Seems like a lot of Republicans headed for the exit.
