i don't know if you're "reading it wrong" so much as we just don't have all the facts about the pastor and the case. My question still stands. being someone who likes to do stupid things for the story, fucking a pastor would certainly be up on my list if i was into that kind of thing.

I don't think that we have all of the facts about the case, but here are the facts that are given to us directly by the Illinois Sex Offender Registry.

He was convicted of CRIMINAL SEXUAL ASSAULT/VICTIM 13-17 (3 Counts), with a person that was 17 years of age at the time.

In Illinois, the age of consent is 17.

Which means (drumroll please) That conviction was not for screwing a teenage girl out for funs and giggles. It means that he sexually assaulted a person who had already passed the age of consent.

Or maybe they have sodomy laws and breaking those is called "sexual assault". Or maybe he had a plea deal, and the only official charges (they don't always plea to a strictly correct charge) were dealing with the 17-year-old to keep the others out of the mess. Again, you don't have all the info. You'd think if anything he did was non-statutory rape, they might have mentioned it somewhere.

Damn, I suck. You are right. blackeyed

Sec. 12-13. Criminal Sexual Assault.
8 (a) The The accused commits criminal sexual assault if he
9 or she:
10 (1) commits an act of sexual penetration by the use of
11 force or threat of force; or
12 (2) commits an act of sexual penetration and the
13 accused knew that the victim was unable to understand the
14 nature of the act or was unable to give knowing consent; or
15 (3) commits an act of sexual penetration with a victim
16 who was under 18 years of age when the act was committed
17 and the accused was a family member; or
18 (4) commits an act of sexual penetration with a victim
19 who was at least 13 years of age but under 18 years of age
20 when the act was committed and the accused was 17 years of
21 age or over and held a position of trust, authority or
22 supervision in relation to the victim.

23 (b) Sentence.

I'm taking my smarty pants and giving them to Goodwill. *sigh*

shocked So-O-o.... I guess everyone is in agreement then now? The man is a colossal douche because he was in a position of authority and abused it when he had sex with his teenage congregation... And the other church he was welcomed into was nuts for letting him get back into a position of authority where he could continue to grapple with his demon "urges". I'm not going to hold my breath, but damned if he doesn't get busted again... Reported recidivism is actually less then 20% for fist time offenders, but apparently this wasn't his first or second time... He has a much greater likelihood of ending up behind bars again before ending up being the pastor at another church (ironically, the church is his playground and as long as he's around consenting teenagers, the good shepherd may try anointing some of the sheep with his blessed Jesus wand).

I can't believe we actually had an argument in here over whether what he did was wrong... if he had been a priest banging boys, even if it was consensual, the opinion would have been to string him up by his balls... but because it was females, they might have just been out for lol's and that makes it ok? What if it was a teacher? Anyone in a position of trust that abuses that position for sexual gain is a sexual predator, in my books. But maybe that's just the Mom in me talking.

As far as I am aware, the dashes need to be there if you are say year olds, but not years old. Like you wouldn't say he's 12-feet-tall but you would say he's a 12-foot-tall guy.
