Karl Rove announced he's going to leave his post at the Whitehouse by the end of August, supposedly for the sake of his family.

Karl Rove said he took a final decision to leave after White House Chief of Staff Joshua Bolten told aides that if they stayed after the end of August they would be obliged to stay in the administration until Mr Bush's own departure in January 2009.

"There's always something that can keep you here, and as much as I'd like to be here, I've got to do this for the sake of my family," he said.

Dana Perino then politely pretended he was going to be missed:

"Obviously, it's a big loss to us," White House deputy press secretary Dana Perino told the Associated Press news agency. "He's a great colleague, a good friend, and a brilliant mind. He will be greatly missed."

"He will continue to be one of the president's greatest friends," she added.

The news that a complete twunt is leaving office is always a good thing, but it's made even better by the fact we won't have to endure anymore worrying attempts at rapping from MC Rove:

Meh. There is no campaign. The next two years is about damage control.

And since old Karl is more about damage than damage control, he has outlived his usefulness.

I am just giggling at what his wife must be thinking. "Oh fuck! He's going to be home now??"

For the family my ass.

It could have major implications for him testifying before congress.

I think that that is sort of the point. I mean, Bush will continue to stonewall, but he no longer has to deal with Rove continuing on staff.

The game plan is to stretch this out to Jan 19, 2009 on which date Bush will pardon everyone in his administration and leave.

I think a Viking funeral on the Potomac would be a proper send-off for Mr. Rove.

Sure, he's not dead, but I'm sure he'd admire our moxy for acting in a preemptive fashion.

We can just start with obstruction of justice. There are a lot of places we can go with just that.

I wish I could be more pleased about this, but after Rome has been corrupted and burned, it's a little late to know that Commodus has been killed.

Well, it looks like its all down hill from here. Take a look at Bush's first NEws Conference following Rove's departure:

He's not going to read that. We've been down this road before.

I always give people the benefit of the doubt that they want to know more, and enrich their opinions. I am frequently proven wrong, but occasionally delighted.
