This was my reply to a comment BRONK made..above...somehow I fucked up the reply. Duh!
I think before we judge this lost soul who lost a child we need to walk a few steps in her shoes. It's understood that Casey served his country by choice. However, as a mother, the absolute last thing I would want my son to do is follow in his father's footstep and join the service. Is it because I loathe the military and don't appreciate the sacrifices they make for all of us? NO...it's because, as a mother, I want my child to live longer than me. I don't agree with all of her tactics, but damn give the woman a break. Losing a child would make me psycho too.
She%u2019s not the only mother to loss a son or daughter in Iraq. I am not saying that she shouldn%u2019t morn his death. It%u2019s her son and she should. And as readheadCD stated, I too believe that parents shouldn%u2019t outlive their children. But there comes a point in time where I viewed her actions as turning from a state of morning, to just using it as an excuse to protest the current Administration. It also seemed that she used it as a credential & a reason as to why she was an authority. That%u2019s all.k There are other people out there that just might be able to do a better job of promoting the same message.
edit: She's got her facts wrong. I would be quite embarrassed to be an American and not know that.
I really hate to say this, but Waynbo's substantially correct about Sheehan's factual accuracy (her opinions being another matter, of course).
Ummm, the 16th Amendment was a Republican policy enacted under a Republican Congress, the US has not "started" any war, save in Iraq, and Vietnam was begun by Eisenhower and necessitated almost wholly by his policies in SE Asia. As for slavery, the Democratic party did not exist for most of the history of slavery in the US and were far more concerned with whether to centralize power than over slavery per se until the collapse of the Whig party. All parties were bitterly divided over slavery and factionalized over the Wilmot proviso, the Compromise of 1850 and the various acts regarding the Kansas territory and its statehood.
The (Lincoln) Republican party did not exist for most of the history of slavery in the USA.

Is there some reason that you just regurgitated an entire Wikipedia article into this discussion? It didn't add anything, didn't address the original post, and sure as fuck didn't make you look like an impressive authority.
And yet, here you are using soldiers' death to promote your own agenda, you vestigial tail on the ass of Sparta. I'm sure that Casey would be happy to hear you slander his mother.
How am I using his death to promote my agenda?
In the first part I gave my opinion as to what I think of her, and yes, it wasn't nice. Sorry, but deal with it. The second part was a side note, becuase some people may not know how or why he died. The last part was a thank you to the service men & women of this country. Agenda, no.

What agenda?
In the first part I simply stated my opinion of what I think of her. And yes, it wasn't nice. Sorry, but deal with it. I'm sure she wouldn't care what I thought of her anyhow. The second part was a quick side not to explain why & how Casey died. Lastly, the third part was to say thank you to all of our service men & women. No agenda. Sorry.

That still doesn't constitute every war.
And of course I've heard just about a million times that the Republicans are the anti-slavery party, and that the Dems are the party of slavery, but as we all agree, those parties are radically different now than they were, and so much so that to call them the same parties they were is incorrect, or al least misleading.
Well, if we want to be hyper-techincal, there have only been two US wars in the 20th c; WW I and II. We've not declared war since 1941 (Except on things other than nation states: crime, poverty, drugs, "terror" [sic], et al. Everything else has been a "police action."
