Wil, you are a great writer, I found myself getting all choked up too. I am not so much a Trekkie but I have deep respect for science fiction as a whole for exactly the reasons you put forward. It's ability to abstract social concepts and analyse them in a way that is sometimes not possible with the raw material of circumstance.

Keep carrying that torch mate.

I'm picturing in my mind the experience of Gene Roddenberry handing you/me his ensign bars and thinking I'd probably collapse under the honor. And then your passing them on to Eugene, Jr....wow, teary eyed and everything. I feel it from here.

All that and Neal Stephenson, too! Helluva day, Wil, and thanks for sharing it.

That was one of the most moving things I've read in months (your recent post about the trip to the studio comes in at a close second). It doesn't feel like an adequate expression of gratitude, but thank you very, very much for sharing this.

It is a very good thing that nobody else is in the room right now. I'm giving you a standing ovation.

You are a Speaker For The Dead and a damn good one.

That was a brilliant speech, and a very moving gesture at the end. I am more upset than ever that I'll be missing your keynote speech at PAX this year.

I heart Wil Weaton. Thank you so much. This article reminded me why I turn to repeats of these old shows and get hooked all over again.

I'm tearing too.

Top notch, man. I was hoping you'd post a transcript of your speech. I looked for it on YouTube after I saw your blog entry about the induction the other day.

It makes me happy to hear stories about Gene - someone I've always admired - that detail things besides his creativity that made him a wonderful human being.
