This judge must be mentally ill; to cry in court over a pair of pants, and to prep people and get them to compare a dry cleaner to the Nazi's...INSANE. Then to sue for millions of dollars for a pair of pants which at most could not have been more than a few hundred dollars, this guy needs to be evaluated, and the case thrown out...

Exactly. I can't imagine that it's just that he's an asshole. Nobody's that much of an asshole. There has to be some psychological problem at work.

he just went thru a divorce. Does that explain it ?

I would expect that the divorce was probably more because he was crazy than what drove him crazy, but who knows?

Perhaps the loss of those pants led to his divorce?
Don't underestimate the power of a good pair of pants.

Heh, once I went to Wendy's and ordered a combo and they got every single item wrong. Like, chicken instead of beef, iced tea instead of lemonade, fries instead of chilli. I also ordered other stuff and didn't get it.The girl at the counter was dumb.

But you know... I was just kind of angry. I didn't feel the need to sue.

Give the dude a break. He's clearly just looking out for all of us pants-wearing, Korean nazi hating, reasonable and decent folk. He'll I'd kill for less than what he's suing for. Once my little brother stole my headband, so I threw him off our balcony. Not pretty.

You should see what happened to the dude who stole my scarf...

But I think Zarth is probably right. This dude is a whole big bag of crazy.

Am I too late to make a pants joke? Ah, fuck it. lulzguysimnotwearinpantz!!1!one!

When I read this story the first time it was posted here, I thought "damn we live in a fucked up world where a guy can sue for millions in pain and suffering over a pair of pants" and moved on with my life.

I'm amazed this guy wasn't laughed out of court immediately. I hear there's a move to get him booted from the bar?

Mostly, though, I feel bad for the owners of the business. They should counter-sue his ass for pain and suffering, mental anguish, slander, and for making them wash the piss stains out of his JC Penny slacks - because judging from the story thus far, the man must piss himself daily.

I'm just trying to figure out- was his emotional testimony faked, or is he really that sensitive. Because if he is, I don't know how he has kept from offing himself just from the daily bullshit we all have to deal with. confused

CNN just reported that the mans case has been thrown out, and that he has been ordered to pay $1000 for the court costs of the dry cleaner operators. They may seek further compensation for over $10,000 in legal costs associated with their legal defense.

Judge rules in favor of dry cleaner in multimillion-dollar suit over missing pants
From the Associated Press
9:31 AM PDT, June 25, 2007

WASHINGTON -- A judge ruled today in favor of a dry cleaner that was sued for $54 million over a missing pair of pants.

The owners of Custom Cleaners did not violate the city's consumer protection law by failing to live up to Roy L. Pearson's expectations of the "Satisfaction Guaranteed" sign once displayed in the store window, District of Columbia Superior Court Judge Judith Bartnoff ruled.

"A reasonable consumer would not interpret 'Satisfaction Guaranteed' to mean that a merchant is required to satisfy a customer's unreasonable demands" or to agree to demands that the merchant would have reasonable grounds for disputing, the judge wrote.

Bartnoff ordered Pearson to pay the court costs of defendants Soo Chung, Jin Nam Chung and Ki Y. Chung.

Dude might lose his job.

There's also the possibility that he may have to pay attorney's fees.

The Chungs have asked the court to order Pearson to pay their attorneys' fees, arguing that Pearson acted in bad faith in suing the family.

The judge has not ruled on the Chungs' request, and Pearson has been given an extension to file his response to the Chungs' motion. Ordering a losing plaintiff to pay attorneys' fees is unusual and would require the judge to find that the case was frivolous.

Oh come on, surely that's a frivolous case!

At least, for once, common sense has prevailed.
