Today U.S. Representative Dennis Kucinich (D - Ohio) filed Articles Of Impeachment (Synopsis) against Vice President Dick Cheney.

Articles of impeachment exhibited by the House of Representatives of the United States of America in the name of itself and the people of the United States of America, against Richard B. Cheney, Vice President of the United States of America, in maintenance and support of its impeachment against him for high crimes and Misdemeanors.

The articles charge the Vice President of manipulating pre-war intelligence and of providing false intelligence of an Iraqi weapons of mass destruction program. The articles further claim that Dick Cheney has lied to the congress and the citizens of the U.S. about alleged links between Iraq and al-Quaeda. The final charge focuses on Dick Cheney's open threats against Iran where no real threat has been directed from that country towards the United States. The articles were brought on the justification that Cheney has neglected and ignored his official duties to uphold U.S. law and the Constitution through the damaging of national security by his action.

You can read the article coving the filing for impeachment at The Raw Story

I'm not getting my hopes up, yet.

From the linked article:

The former Cleveland Mayor further acknowledged in the press conference that he had not recently spoken with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on the matter. Pelosi had said last year that impeach was "off the table."

[...]

He also acknowledged that he had not yet discussed his charges with Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, whose committee must consider whether or not to forward the articles on to Congress.

Still, wow. eeek

It certainly doesn't bode well for the White House, this coupled with the mass impeachment rallies around the country scheduled for this Saturday is bound to be a thorn in their side...

Oh yeah, Bush and Cheney are probably quaking in their boots.

The article doesn't make it clear, but Pelosi was talking about Bush. Far as I know, she never mentioned Cheney one way or the other.

Seriously. I wish Kucinich would just go away already.

I'm really kind of irritated by this. Does he have the support of any other Democrats in Congress (to say nothing of any Republicans)? Does he think that this will go anywhere? If not, does he realize that he's probably (and by "probably," I mean "most certainly and entirely") fucking it up for less nutcase Democrats to do such a thing in the future and actually have even a slight chance at getting somewhere with it?

I hate politicians who don't understand the first goddamn thing about politics.

But don't you understand? He's a "maverick!" He "listens to his heart!" He "thinks for himself!"

Of course, all of those are political code for "completely fucking ineffective", but whatever.

The idea of "thinking for oneself" is hugely overrated. I don't think that's a universal standard; I don't think that that encouragement is meant for everyone. Some people shouldn't think for themselves.

And that is because some people are idiots.

This is like a Parent claiming their child was molested in order to sue and get money. When the time comes to REALLY take down Cheney, it will fail due to the crap-tastic fuckup that is Kunnich's first try.

Kucinich makes valid points in his filing, but I agree with every one else: dude should wait until he actually has some support before he brings the Articles of Impeachment to the table.

That's what I thought, but either way. I don't see it happening. It's too bad. If Johnson and Clinton could be impeached, I don't see why this fuck couldn't. At the very least (if he wasn't found guilty), it'd be a judgment of no-confidence.

While I agree with punk, he should wait till he has support, what more does the fucker have to do? Falsify intelligence so we can invade Iran? Just exactly what is it going to take, before people have the balls to impeach him? This whole fucking administration is going to end up being one of the biggest black-eyes in American history. Our government should make a statement thusly in recognition.

He was all kinds of political when he denied city services to the districts of his political rivals when he was a mayor.

It shows where his head is.

I wouldnt be surprised if the American people look back and see the Dems not as the ones who FINALLY took back the administration, but simply as pulling a last ditch effort to avoid being lumped in with all the blackeyes in history.

Well, to be fair. I'm about as disillusioned with the Democratic party as I am with the Administration. They play along rather than creating a new game--the one that really needs to be played. To be honest, the whole dialogue makes me sick.

This is one of the things I like about Obama. Despite everything I disagree with him about, despite the fact that I really don't think he has the proper experience; he has the willingness and the intelligence to redirect the conversation in a direction that this country so desperately needs.
