i heard awhile back that the current draft bill doesn't have a college loophole either, so no more shelter for the spawn of the wealthy (well, i'm sure they'd find one, but you know).
If only wealthy people go to college then why the hell am I still paying off loans seven years after graduation?

It's not that only rich kids go to college.
It's that, typically it has been the wealthy that could afford to use college attendance specifically as a dodge.

this picture sums up the way a lot of us feel about our leaders:
the circled part of the soldier's hand is the sign of coercion. we learn it in survival school.
Is it basically just crossing your fingers? Kind of a "sure I won't give you another wedgie/fingers crossed behind the back" thing?
Awesome image.
It's would be awesome but for the fact that that dude most certainly ASKED to take the picture with her.
Possibly not.
But from his facial expression, it still looks more like he's making an inside joke. Especially since there don't seem to be pictures of any more service members doing the same, and there most certainly have been ample opportunities.

You could even get a reality show started around them.
this is exactly what Charlie Rangle had in mind -- he said if the white wealthy warmongers had to send their own kids, wars like this would not happen!
Mav06 saidid you learn nothing from Srebrenice? Rwanda? Warsaw 1944? Those who cannot use force effectively are SLAUGHTERED by those who are in the military.

This is claiming to be the same signal (female in the background)
My husband says he doesn't remember that from his survival school, and he isn't the type to forget things.

Her finger seems to be struck in a very deliberative manner--very unnatural. I have no evidence whatsoever, but this type of thing wouldn't surprise me for a second. I mean they're military. I'm sure they have some little inside thing. And no offense, but just 'cause your husband isn't aware of it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Anthropologists call it "weapons of the weak"--which would be ironic in this case.

I'm sure it is a very deliberate signal. I was just relating a bit of personal information along with it.
*edited to add*
I guess I felt the need to add in that my husband didn't learn it in survival school because that is where this signal is supposed to be taught. And he got quite a bit more training than your average soldier because of the jobs that he did when he was active duty. I would have thought that it would be one of those things that were taught to every soldier. *shrug*

I'm starting to be surprised there isn't political assassination and open rebellion in America or at least some kind of active resistance yet. How badly does your country have to get fucked by your own "representatives" before someone does something more than a halfhearted "but at least half of us don't agree" stance.
And that would make things better how? we can simply elect different leaders.
You could have fooled me.
Who should we shoot first? Do you think the 2nd and 3rd in command won't follow along the same policy guidelines?
Active and open resistance? What strategy would you assume? Acts of physical aggression against our own government would lead to a smackdown that I don't even want to imagine.
Not to mention the fact that the only thing this nation is capable of coming together in mass numbers for is the next winner of American Idol. The vast majority are dumbass armchair warriors, on both sides of the political fence. It isn't my fault that my neighbors don't know what the real issues are, or that they don't really care.
Kind of a big problem isn't it. As long as life goes on as usual on homeground you people don't even care enough to stop warcriminals and other assorted scum in your own government.
Hey all the really nasty shit is out of sight so why bother to do something about it, but oh dang how the rest of the world hates us for it, you know fifty percent of us disagree with our government! We disagree quite strongly from the comfort of our homes, we'll continue to disagree all the way until things get better all by themselfs. Probably when Bush' term is up and they all go away nicely, unpunished for all the shit they pulled and leave the mess behind.
My government was reformed several times over the last few years because we were unhappy about the way things were done here. And they weren't even disgusting, pocketfilling, human rights violating warcriminals.
Also as for your open rebellion idea the ones most likely to disagree with the current government are also the ones MOST likely to hate guns and want gun control so yeah that open rebellion idea of yours would end something like Tienamen SQ but faster.
It's funny to hear so many people bitching about the government. We live in a country where voter turnout is abomindally low and truth is the system is controlled by special interest groups because they are the ones who are most involved. Most folks are to apathetic to do anything other then bitch about it. I personally don't think a draft would be such a bad thing. There are a lot of reasons why it would be good for younger Americans to undergo some sort of service. Being so short of servicemen as we are though it's a shame that we waste a valuable resource by keeping half a million americans who have done nothing other than nonviolently posess or sell contraband locked up in prisons so we can make work for prison guards, cops, and court personnel. We should allow offenders whose only crimes are contraband based to have their sentences commuted if they enlist. This should also apply to parolees.

You're assuming he likes his kids...
I think for me lefty there would be a solid 15; with some ink.....

Not really.
It's more that the vast majority of groups who both dislike the current government and are well-armed enough to possibly overthrow that government are filled with psychotic ultraconservative fucktards who blather on about "ZOG" and "the coming race war".
Not exactly the kind of folks I'd like to see take power anywhere.
