The amusing part is that Alberto doesn't seem to realize that he's a corpse, politically.

You have more faith in the system than I do (give me a job). To me, the scary part is that they might actually find some way to weasel - or worse, stonewall - their way out of this.

The system's pretty broken, as far as accountability is concerned. Granted, this isn't '04, when Bush won with a slightly hinky three-percent and took that as "political capital" and fired the only two grownups in his cabinet. But these guys are survivors, and all the important players cut their teeth on Watergate. I wouldn't underestimate either their strength or their unity.

Further proof that this administration is destined to crash and burn.

There is no way that Alberto can function in this environment. I suppose it's possible that he could stay in his post and be completely ineffectual and castrated by this current episode. But I'd count that as being a corpse politically as well.

Well, hell, if you're going to bring effectuality into this, these fuckers have scarcely ever even been in office.

They've been plenty "effectual" unfortunately. Not with many things, but with a few things that are dreadfully serious.

Well, what they've been most effectual at is destroying an otherwise pretty cool country.

I mean, yeah, there's the whole Police State thing, but that hasn't resulted in anything more real (yet) than some sketchy plea-bargains and a nasty way of treating foreigners we kidnap that's made us a champion of human-rights violations.

And yeah, there's the whole Second Gilded Age thing, but those policies could easily be considered as more of an erosion of political authority rather than an expansion.

And yeah, there's the whole Eleventh Crusade thing, but again, that's more of a failure than a demonstration of effectiveness.

In other words, I'm pretty sure that history, if history is just (always dicey), will judge this regime most effectual at rendering the government of the United States ineffectual.

We need Alberto to keep us safe from the porn, you see if he is removed he will not be able to surf all that porn and find out what to keep us safe from.

Those pinkos over at The National Review Online seem to be calling for Gonzalez's resignation. I mean, who's surprised? Even their web page is blue!

And William F. Buckley not only hosted a show on PBS, he has a fake British accent and once smoked pot (in international waters) before coming out in favor of legalization of the evil weed.

COLD TOAST!

Alberto's cold toast!

That's my new favorite saying.

I was wondering what that was.

I sill don't get it. Must be some Midwestern idiom or something.

"Cold Toast" is a great description for someone in Gonzales' position. It totally better than "You're fired!"

Dude, you're cold toast! You've been Cold Toasted!

I used to get cold toasted a lot in college, but I gave it up when I stopped being able to remember shit.

I don't get it either, so it must be a very localized Midwestern idiom, or something.

Well, if you don't get it, either, maybe it's not an idiom after all, but rather some kind of jargon that can only be understood by, like, people who work or something.

Of course. But I've never heard anything about "cold toast."

Newty agrees with me.

"You know, the buck has to stop somewhere, and I'm assuming it's the attorney general and his immediate team," Mr. Gingrich went on. Asked by the interviewer Chris Wallace whether Mr. Gonzales should resign, Mr. Gingrich replied, "I cannot imagine how he is going to be effective for the rest of this administration."

Damage limitation. '... his immediate team'. Nothing to do with W, or Rove, or any of those people. Of course not.
