there is more than a little speculation that Hicks pled guilty in exchange for a lighter sentence. he'd maintained his innocence the whole time, and then suddenly reversed and confessed to everything.
My point is that our fucktarded government can't even manage to get a strict sentence for someone who admits to being a terrorist / admits to giving material aid to terrorists.
Perhaps the point is that our fucktarded government is choosing to give him a lenient sentence so they don't get their asses handed to them (before next election) for gross human rights violations?

i'll agree that it's [insert any number of adjectives here, i'm going to go with "amusing"] that after all the hullaballoo the Bush administration made about protecting us from teh terrars, their first conviction netted a shorter prison term than real estate specualtion. however, i'm not going to get broken up--or mad at the gummint--for handing down a light sentence on someone whose guilt is not clear-cut.
