McD's and PETA disagree slightly on just what standard their animal welfare practices live up to. to their credit, they were the first fast food giant to even bother with animal welfare -- burger king followed and wendy's was actually a hold-out for a long time.
yeah, the usual hey look, we care about our supply chain stuff. it's the sort of soft self-regulation that's been popular for a while now: the company sets some nice-sounding goals and performs audits once in a while, but is generally hands-off about actual day to day operations. rarely will you actually see a company go in and say "holy shit, this is bad. you guys have to clean up your act." unless a watchdog group calls them on it. but that's pretty much how every industry works i guess.
