"OH MY GOD MAN I FUCKING LOVED THIS SONG SO MUCH IN HIGH SCHOOL!!1!" only to crawl out of your hangover the next day and wonder what the hell you're going to do with all that new Rick Springfield music.)
Silly me after my comment about firefox I should have thought that someone would already have done it. Has anyone tried this out of interest? I'm just about to download it and take a look - even though it's still under development
I guess I've never had an issue with it because 99% of the music I have on my computer I ripped straight from CDs I went out and bought. I've never used the online music stores. I kind of like having a collection of the actual albums.

Well, I started to buy lots of iTune tracks after I last moved to the US. Knowing that more continent hopping would surely follow, I didn't want to burden myself with too many physical possessions that I would have to have shipped all over the world. A single CD doesn't take up much space, but...
Of course my CD collection was MP3-fied, too, before I left Germany. All that's missing now is a shrinking ray for comics. Or, of course, a transporter.
Finally, one idea I had has been reported on Ars Technica as actually happening: Credit for individual songs if you buy the album later. Have you ever bought some songs as part of an iMix, and liked one of them so much, you end up buying the whole album? Now you have a stupid duplicate song cluttering up your library, and you spent an extra dollar, (which you've recently learned the value of, if only to shut up your parents.) I love the idea of giving consumers a store credit, and I think that this will ultimately lead to Apple selling more music, as potential customers become more comfortable buying essential collections and singles, secure in the knowledge that they can buy the whole album later without getting screwed. Nice.
Funny, one day after I read your article, I got an email from itunes saying they were implementing this very feature!
Damn it! I did that just the other day, bought a song, then ended up buying the album. UGH...that is annoying! My ipod seems to have a mind of its own as it sometimes decides to copy certain playlists and sometimes not...
Customers of Apple Inc.'s iTunes store will soon be able to play downloaded songs by the Rolling Stones, Norah Jones and other top-selling artists free of the copying restrictions once imposed by their label.
How about being able to link a couple of songs or a whole group of them so they play sequentially. That way you can identify each song individually and play them as so, but if you want to create a sub group within a playlist so they play together (even when you shuffle) you can listen to your music how it was meant to be heard. I can't tell you how many times I get pissed when I'm listening to a transition in one song to another on The Dark Side of the Moon only to be interrupted by some grinding surf guitar by the Trashwomen. Great music each on their own, but how about some freaking customization here so they don't weave in and out of one another quite so randomly. Maybe I'm just lazy and don't like making my own playlists, on that note, you should be also be able to create playlists from your iPod while listening. Maybe you can with newer updates, but I haven't updated mine (or added music) since my laptop crashed almost a year ago...
By the way, The Trashwomen so belong on a Suicide Girls soundtrack...
Honestly, none of those features would matter very much to me. I don't have an iPod, don't need to de-DRM iTunes Music Store purchases, don't share my computer(s) and so on. What would make a huge difference, however, is being able to redownload previously purchased music from the Music Store whenever I needed to. I discovered you couldn't do this a while back when I inadvertently deleted part of my music collection - including most of my purchased songs. And without that safeguard, I don't know that I'm ever going to buy from the Music Store again. Which is a shame, because I think it's otherwise a great way to get music.
And I'm going to have to investigate these new players.
technically off topic but... i recently had to use quicktime to watch a video that was hyperlinked on a message board and I was surprised at how much space it uses. It's like 27 MB!
So I could make a field listing something like "Associations" and have my Wu-Tang section (Wu albums, solo albums, etc.), my New Pornographers section (NPs, Neko Case, Destroyer, Evaporators, etc.) and so on.
And so I could do multiple genres.
And so I could have country of origin.
As it is, I'm making the best with the Grouping field, which I'm not even sure what it's meant for.
