my point was that these horrifying acts are relatively minor. we do much worse to our own people, and ourselves. yes, upholding someone else's personal integrity is the PC thing to do these days. but, this is a war, a WAR. one which is pointless, yes... but, war nonetheless. i wouldn't consider these atrocities along the lines of mass genocide. try digging your teeth into something with much broader consequences instead of pussyfooting around with these acts which are minor in direct relation to some of the horrific things that are happening. the severity of the act actually does come into play. i'm sorry if you disagree. i never said it was ok, and i never said i condone anything like this in any way whatsoever.

i'm curious how comparing torture to consensual torture makes me a creep? nowhere did i ever even remotely imply that they were the same thing. what i was getting at, was that some people ENJOY these types of activities, and i can't understand why these VERY SAME people would get so up in arms over this when far, far, FAR worse acts are being committed. they enjoy this sort of thing, and yet... it is the absolute worst thing that they are aware of? everyone cries and moans, just to hear themselves, and be congratulated. if you truly care so very much, revolt already for fuck's sake, because a revolution, this is not.

nobody in this country gives a shit about anyone other than themselves, why try to look like we're wonderful humanitarians? every government is corrupt, cruel, and interested only in what kind of power it can gain, and then abuse. it will always be that way. the human race IS pretty damn wretched, if you hadn't noticed.

the fact that everyone in the entire world is so quick to do terrible things to each other on a daily basis, in our personal lives, makes me sick. (no, not s&m, i'm referring to the mental and physical torment we cause one another.) and the fact that they distance their own wrong-doing from something such as this is hypocritical. torture comes in many, many forms.

also, i am absolutely certain that not a single person that i know would ever agree that i am a creep, in any fashion. not that it matters. but, i'm certain that i am not what your friends would be looking for, anyway. i... as insane as it may sound... care about others far more than i care about myself. One major difference...CONSENT. Consenting to engage in s&m is wholly different than using torture techniques to obtain confessions from unwilling captives. A lot of people have rape fantasies, that doesn't entail that they want to be raped for real.

Moreover, at no point during an S&M is someone supposed to be in genuine fear for their lives or safety -- hence the existence of safety words. Someone being waterboarded feels like they're in danger of drowning. Pretending to sic dogs on someone terrified of them is not remotely like any S&M I've ever heard.

Nobody here's comparing any of this to genocide, or beheadings, or anything like that -- nobody, except the people trying to defend bad behavior. Just because the other guys are bad doesn't mean we're not capable of being better.

Finally, a stray thought: if Bush et al. believe so strongly that they're not doing anything bad or illegal, let them prove their point to the UN and the world at large. I'm fairly certain that we've got some die-hard patriots involved in these activities, ones who wouldn't mind stepping forward and saying what they're doing is somehow defensible, even to the point of risking arrest and imprisonment. Let it happen. If we've done nothing that we should be ashamed of, then we should be able to say so without hesitation in the clear light of day.

Until and unless that happens, I'm going to go by the Republican party line: the government's not the solution, it's the problem.

There is no such thing as consensual torture. Torture is the intentional infliction of suffering. The whole point of S&M is that the pain being caused brings a greater pleasure to the people involved. Pleasure and suffering are not compatible states.

my problem with the whole works is that almost everyone that "speaks out" does so in the most ineffectual, but provocative, manner. all they really seek is attention, and possibly a job writing a political satire column in an edgy news magazine. they also hold themselves above all others based on these opinions, and really care nothing about the victims. it's merely for show. they're anti-establishment X core. yeah, we get that. stop repeating what others have already said, do something about it. writing scathingly humorous articles about something we read about on yahoo news last year isn't going to accomplish anything. it isn't funny. it isn't going to save anyone, or stop a goddamned thing.

Hmm... so he beheaded a journalist... lol. That's inane... what was the journalist reporting on when he was killed and was his death to prevent him from informing people of something or was it just another random act of terror with no point other than to freak everyone out would be my question.

The journalist in questiion was Daniel Pearl. The reason he was beheaded was because he was jewish. Not because he was a journalist. While this guy confessed to it there is some doubt that he did it, and little evidence. Rather its thought that he wants the credidt because it earns him Al queda brownie points.

Which brings me to my next question. We are all assuming he was tortured for ihis confession. However ever other major terrorist that has been caught has attempted to create the same media circus that this guy has. Did anyone ever stop to think that maybe he wanted to talk? That he sees nothing wrong with what he has done and is in fact ready and willing to defend it? While he may have been tortured for tactical information (bases,sleeper cells ect) I doubt he needed any encouragement to talk about his proud jihad ways. The guy seems like a serious blowhard.
