"Guest" worker? You really think these people will leave once they get here? I don't think so. Listen, Spanish is my first language and i run in to people who have crossed the border illegally all the time; you don't want to know what some of them say about Americans and "white people" (and other races for that matter).
What will be effective is punishing employers, not the illegals themselves. It makes no sense to put them in our jails, where we will still have to pay for them anyway. They are just coming here to make a better living; i do feel for them, but it isin't our problem. We still maintain the right to control our border, as is any country is expected to. Many illegals are hired because they can get away with paying them $2.00 an hour, as opposed to paying an American $7.50 an hour. The "demand" exists because corporations want to save money, and are not punished for breaking the law in doing so. I'm sorry you can't see the United States, as a soverign nation, has no obligation to let ANYONE in, and only lets immigrants enter at her discretion.

Can you back any of the above with actual fact?
Thanks.
What facts do you need? Is it not a fact that we are not obligated to let anyone in to this country? Is it not a fact that corporations are abusing migrant workers by basicly paying them slave wages? Do you really think that major corporations who pay illegal workers under the table pay them minimum wage? Give me a break, dude.

I'm sure we could could come up with a list, but whoops! Looks like it won't matter after all.

Facts as in you're pulling reams of unsupported assumptions out of your ass and presenting them as reality.
I'm with Munio, y'all. Things were better when our migrant workers were impoverished whites ('30s) and later impoverished blacks (back when they knew their place).
Perhaps if we shut down the BIA we can load trucks full of Injuns and pay 'em with fire water! Then we won't need all them brownish folks.
But seriously, two of my grandparents came here from Quebec, and did well enough during the depression that my dad got to grow up in one of the only "black neighborhoods" in Westchester County.
I now live in a city that's 30-40% Hispanic (largely Mexican, but there's a fair number of Puerto Ricans, Cubans (generally the descendants of Battista-era dealers from Habana). My apartment complex is a bit more than 50% Hispanic. It's no great surprise to me that a large number of them speak Spanish to one another. My grandparents used their archaic form of Francais up until the point my Grandpa died. They spoke English when they needed to (when I was there) and sometimes even then lapsed into French (when calling the teenaged girl across the street a whore, my Dad could translate a bit of it for me). My Dad spoke French before he learned English.
There is a terrific economic incentive for learning and mastering the English language. This was enough for my Grandpa and Dad to start pronouncing our last name incorrectly. Grandpa was fairly accented, but to get and keep his job at the GM plant, he spoke English when he needed to.
Amazingly enough, so do the vast majority of Hispanics I know. And those who can't or won't, tend to suffer economically as a result.
My supposition: Republicans who cringe about Mexicans who can't or won't learn English don't believe in the powerful incentives of the free enterprise system. Should we let these probable socialists run America? They apparently want a nanny government to FORCE people to speak English. Fucking godless communists.
