I haven't yet played a Wii yet but I hear it is a lot of fun. What is it exactly that make women love the Wii so much? How is it different from other video game systems?

I think the biggest reason why women are able to get into the Wii more is the short learning curve of using the interface. Though most boys who grew up playing video games are now used to using their thumbs and fingers to manipulate all the triggers, buttons, and thumbsticks that are popular now most new gamers struggle with these. The fact that the Wii-mote can be picked up and learned how to use in about 5 seconds by anyone is probably the reason why people love it so much. You get to play the game rather than trying to learn how to coordinate your button pressing.

Maybe I should talk my hubby into getting us one. The only games I can sit down and play for any length of time are Sims or Tetris.

I don't get it. Were you really bothered by such an innocuous article or was it a joke that went wrong?

I remember being in the electronics section of a Target where I saw two middle aged Hispanic women at the Wii display talking excitedly about the system in Spanish. It was both a sight I thought I would never see and something that blew my mind. Since Target was out of Wiis at the time, the two walked away only with the little Wii informational pamphlets, but it was still a sight to behold.

1) It's cute. The graphics are cute. The games are cute.
2) The controllers fit in our hands (I have trouble holding Xbox and Playstation controllers for any long amount of time -- they're too big)
3) There are no complex button combinations to memorize or try to execute on controllers that are too big for our hands.
4) The games don't require hours and hours of dedicated play-time (although hours and hours of dedicated play-time often occur; it's not mandatory)
5. The games aren't marketed towards 12-to-35-year-old-boys (for example, I can't think of a single Wii game that could be marketed as "KILL A SHITLOAD OF STUFF IN AWESOME WAYS -- NOW WITH MEGA-REALISTIC BLOOD SPATTER!!!! -- AND CHECK OUT THIS HOT CHICK WITH THE GIANT BAZONGAS WHO BOUNCES AROUND IN SKIMPY CLOTHES AND ADDS NOTHING TO THE GAME!")

I've actually heard rumors that they're thinking of making a Leisure Suit Larry game with the Wii, so the hot chicks with giant bazongas have invaded already.

Exactly the same with me. My girlfriend usually just watches me play videogames if she's bored but would never play. Now we play all the time together! I also brought it over to my parent's place for christmas and my whole family was playing - mom, dad, everyone! It's honestly the best system I've ever played. If Nintendo can get a 58 year-old mom to pick up a controller and be able to play golf or bowling, they've seriously struck gold.
MAN I love that shit.

Any video game controller intimidates me except for my Duck Hunt gun. I've just never been good with them, but I can see how many people can get addicted. I'm only good with the Xbox controller playing racing games. But a friend of ours brought over his Wii and it was crazy. I've gotten pretty good at the bowling, but haven't ventured anywhere past that.

Now that Guitar Heros is another story...when our friend brings that over I can't stand the amount of time my husband and our friend spend on it, and I'm afraid to try it myself. I just want my DDR thanks smile

this is such a sweet story,
it sounds like my dad and my mom, my dad its a computer programmer from the 80s and my mom doesnt even know how to check her email without help, worst something that requires her to move a character on an unfriendly location using a mouse and a keyboard at the same time

we all want a Wii, we know my mom will like it

Soo...what if I want a Wii and the mister wants a PS3?

He needs to have his head examined.

Everytime I try to talk about it, he starts in with,

"But it's got blu-raaaaay!"

Like feeling like my DVD collection is obsolete is a good thing. confused

Typically I do prefer the game selection on Sony, though.

The Wii looks so good, and i'm PISSED at Sony for not having a backwarsd-compatible chip... but... i need to play Metal Gear 4 when it comes out! They've got me over a barrel!

I can't, can't, can't wait to get a Wii biggrin My local EB games said they are finally expecting a new shipment either this week or the next!

I think it's appeal to non-traditional-gamers is the motion control which doesn't require esoteric fumbling with insane combinations of buttons.
