I might buy one since it looks like the EDGE networks may have gotten a nice speed boost.

That, and with my current job, im paying 100 bucks a month for my current blackberry plan

I don't get it. First-generation iPhones are missing so many features.

I'm going to be conservative and wait for my current cell phone plan to expire before i buy one. The only real problem I see with the iphone is that it doesn't use the faster data network which i don't understand. Any other problems or missing features else can be updated in software releases.

well, unless you are true gadget freak, you should probably skip first gen anything. early adopting has its pros and cons.

Gizmodo confirmed its missing:

  • Songs as Ringtones

  • Games

  • Any flash support

  • Instant Messaging

  • Picture messages (MMS)

  • Video recording

  • Voice recognition or voice dialing

  • Wireless Bluetooth Stereo Streaming (A2DP)

  • One-size-fits-all headset jack (May have to buy an adapter for certain headphones)

some of those can probably be added with updates or 3rd party aps (which may be individually priced). i plan to wait awhile, my treo is just fine for the moment.

eh, i need a newer updated phone and i currently don't have an ipod. that's what i'm buying it for. i don't care that it doesn't take video or have games or all that other stuff.

the features it DOES have far outweigh those it doesn't IMO.

Mine too biggrin

I'm trying out the keyboard right now by writing out texts and notes and I have to say it's pretty solid. It's like Apple says, trust the iPhone to know what you're spelling and you'll get close to 100% accuracy, even with two thumbs! It's only a pain when you aren't spelling actual words, like URLs and street addresses.

Also, I'm not too happy with having to click Home > iPod everytime I want to change something. Dedicated playback buttons please! Even if just in the earphones.

People bitching about Cingular must just live in bad areas or something. I've had them for almost a year and a half and have no complaints whatsoever. But @work, I deal w/VZ Wireless and T-Mobile customers, and they drop out ALL...THE...TIME. If I had VZ Wireless, I couldn't even get service in my own friggin' apartment.

I just don't feeling like blowing someone for a phone. Pretty, though.

I just realized why Sprint has been calling me and sending me letters constantly to renew my plan. I couldn't figure it out because they've never done that before. They're worried. Duh.

My old college roomate worked on building the iphone. He's not easy to impress but he told me a couple of months ago that it was awesome.

That being said, I don't think I can switch to AT&T because of how horrible they are. frown

^^ Yeah, me too.

Sprint just called me and offered "$100 off my next billing cycle" (don't pay anywhere near that per billing cycle) if I would renew on the spot for a 24-month contract.

I told them I would have to think about it ...

A little over four hours. It took an extra hour past six for them to get to me, and I was the 23rd person in line. They took their sweet time.

The Apple Store had over 100 people, and by the time I walked over there with my phone (it was next door in a mall) everyone already had their phones. I assume because they weren't peddling plans.

Perhaps in a few years after all the major bugs have been worked out of the operating system, I will exchange my razor for an iphone. Until there are more features that don't fubar my day and can actually improve the profundity AND efficiency of my communications, I will save my money for the mortgage.

AT&T (Cingular) service has been great for me. I think of just depends on where you are located.

The email and visual voicemail on this thing is awesome. And the keyboard isn't near as bad as they made it out to be. I'm typing this out on my phone right now with hardly any trouble.

oh and I was in line for just a little over an hour. Not too bad. Those of us in line actually had a really good time talking and laughing about how ridiculous we all are for standing in line for this thing. LOL.
