Any yeah... the Demos never pull this shit. Newsflash! This happens any time you have a power shift and a 'lame duck' congress/administrator.

You must have been one politically astute twelve-year old to have noticed that the last time there was a handover of Congress.

Umhehe.

Umhehehaha.

Seriously, because it's not as though there are records of these things.

What the hell kind of cheap-ass, uppity young-punk crack is that? I ought to box your ears, you little whippersnapper! And get off my lawn, you damn kid! And no you can't have your frisbee back!

In all seriousness, though, do you really think ashergrey checked the congressional record before saying that? Granted, neither have I, but I do dimly recall through the gathering haze of senescence that the Contract With America got off to a pretty quick start, and I don't recall hearing anything about the Democrats leaving the incoming majority with a half-trillion dollars' worth of unfinished business. And given the political climate at the time, I'm pretty sure I would've heard about it if we'd done it. Not certain, but pretty sure.

Because those guys were nothing if not a horde of fat, pink-faced whiners, and anything they squall about, they did.

Hmm. A political strategy... So any one with a political strategy is an asshole, right? You may not like it. BUT (my) DEMOCRATS (don't get it twisted) WILL MAKE THE SAME KIND OF MOVES.

Sigh. I'm really tired of simplified "it makes no difference, they all do it" crap. It's dumb, cynical, dishonest simplification. It's like claiming a punch in the face is the same as stepping on someone's foot, because both involve injury.

False equivalency is what assholes use to excuse their behavior as no worse than anything else. Asshole politicians do this most of all, pretending politics is some magical tainted realm beyond that which normal humans occupy, where all is equally bad and equally justified. It also allows them to blame "politics" for real decisions made by real people.

Bullcrap. This inaction could result in massive cuts for those depending on Medicare, among other things. Real humans suffering real damage because the group in power can't put aside strategy and infighting and do the right thing. Nice.

People buy into this "it's all the same" as a form of laziness or pretending it has nothing to do with them or their choices. Why not just post "la la la la not listening!"

No, I think his remark was off the cuff and dumb, but I'm not a fan of the "you weren't alive so you wouldn't know" argument (I know, that wasn't precisely what happened here, but the general idea applies). I understand that a lot of the emotion that goes along with the political landscape is lost on people who weren't alive or aware when events occured, but the simple facts are sometimes easier to grasp when you're learning about something in the past, as opposed to as it happens.

In this particular case I suspect he made a childish outburst based on the "all politicians suck dewd" attitude prevalant amongst people my age. Or maybe it stemmed from some half-remembered story about a particular congressional change his American History teacher mentioned. I get those things once in while myself. I completely agree that it probably wasn't from a real grasp of the facts. That didn't stop me from making my almost-witty remark biggrin

Hey Republican representatives! Do your goddamn jobs like you said you would when you were campaigning the people who put you in your position!

Nobody likes a sore loser who is willing to dick over the rest of us who actually want the Senate and House function like they are supposed to. I can't believe how many old white men are willing to act like total irresponsible children.

The Democrats need to call out the Republicans who are doing this to them, and rub their noses in it and hit their asses with a rolled up newspaper like anyone would who is training a puppy.

I totally agree.

The real problem is that, as Democrats, we're all a bunch of thumb sucking pussies. At least we are compared to the Republicans. We can't seem to lie cheat or steal to get ahead.

What we need to do is make sure our elected officials actually have the fucking balls to step up once they are in power. It always seems that Republicans are willing to say and do anything to make their point, but as Democrats we pussy foot around everything. Look at the difference in our campaign strategies for abortion rights alone. Republicans call out to the gods and shit, and all we can do is say that it's against our rights.

We obviously aren't getting the reactions out of people that we should. With the way that our terrible system of media works, democrats need to start using scare tactics to get all the people in double wides outraged. We need to target people that have no clue what is going on. Just like the republicans do. Lets simplify our campaigns and make a serious call to action!

"Vote for me or you and your children will burn in hell"

Seems to work for the other guys....

I think it comes down to the fact that people are so worried that they are doing the wrong thing (according to the group) that they forget who is responsible for all of it in the first place.

I think a lot of voters need the issues simplified. Doesn't that explain why the Republicans stayed in power for so long? God made the decision for them. Any other choice was obviously wrong.
