This is a tragedy but at least the women lived a long life and died an honorable death defending herself from what looked like a robbery.

I'm sure that comes as a great comfort to her family. In fact I'm sure they're going to mention something to that effect when they set her funeral barge ablaze.

Someone explain this sentence:

...when they broke down the front door of her home trying to serve a search warrant, police said.

Since when do you break down a front door in order to serve a search warrant?? Don't you serve it before actually breaking down a door? Isn't that the point of search warrants?

In the US, a no knock warrant is a warrant issued by a judge that allows law enforcement officers to enter a property without knocking and without identifying themselves as police. It is issued under the belief that any evidence they hope to find can be destroyed during the time that police identify themselves and the time they secure the area.

Wow. And they expect to NOT be shot while doing this?? Damn! Seems pretty stupid to me

Why would a judge issue this for a 92 year old woman?

i think they were under the impression that she was housing a drug dealer. an "informant" told them he bought drugs there. *shrugs*

A ha. Seems like they could have thought it through a bit better. If she were my great grandma, I'd be hiring a lawyer. If one of those cops were my husband, or what have you, I'd also be hiring a lawyer. Sounds reckless to me.

the elderly actually have a pattern with drugs (holding, selling, using). and although its sad, its not unusual for a granny or gramps to be dealing in pot, crack, or meth. i see it all the time coming through our newsroom (i work at a newsplex ABC CBS FOX affiliate)

I'm closing this thread because there is another, more recent thread with updated information and people seem to be getting mixed up about what actually happened.
