Regardless of the topic of this thread, it should be a chance for some good debate. Yet I find it funny that the person submitting this article does nothing but call anyone who has an opposing view "retarded".

Maybe actually responding or debating would show a bit more intelligence then using childlike insults on people. So much for trying to be professional eh ? Going for the insults is a great way to show how much you care about your opinion. Next time, try acting professional when trying to be a journalist, it would really help your point more.

I will also admit, I am a Republican, but I think these elections and how they turned out were a very good thing for this country. I am happy to see some changes happen and look forward to the things they hope to get done. Change isn't always a bad thing, and this time it was needed more then anything.

Neither candidate received votes.

Well, that might be true. Or it might be that they voted for the Democrat.

Maybe. I'd just like to get some information as to what went wrong and who was responsible for it before assuming anything.

I hope that this is the last year for paperless (no receipt) ballots at every poll regardless of the outcome.

hey, democrats are just as shady as republicans. To say ones better or worse than the other is just fucking stupid. Democrats cheat too ya know.

very true, both sides use these kinds of tactics, and in no way is "telefundraising" or any other form of political ad illegal, the company does have to state who they are and who is paying them though. I (gag) telefundraised once, for Kerry actually. (I needed the money) I quit because I didn't want to pry money out of dying old democrats, even if I am a republican. really though, its harsh, its get however much you can out of them, suck them dry politics. it made me sick to my stomach when I had an elderly man on the phone saying he couldn't do this, that he gets these calls all the time from democratic organization because he donated alot back when he was in his 40's and he's been a life long democrat, but he just doesn't have money to give anymore, especially with the doctor predicting his wifes death in the next two months. ugh... I quit that day.
meh, anyways, back to subject. Both sides use dirty tactics, its what politics is now. Republicans just tend to get the raw end lately, because they (were) are in power and media in general is left-based. it would help if Bush could give a better speech x_x he's like your friend who constantly sets himself up for the joke... people know what he meant to say...but damn, you have to take the shot.

'Course, all the pot heads hung together too. The best part is- both groups always thought they were the "smart" ones.

Somehow this seems apropos to a discussion about Republicans v. Democrats...but I can't quite put my finger on why...

Well, don't you know, as an Independet, Reaper is unbiased which clearly shows in his articles that slam Republicans more often than not. How often can we read his beautifully written exposes making fun of Republican leaders...

As an Independent myself, I find Democrats to be equally pathetic on voting day and every day as well. Hell I remember clearly rounding up registered Democrats in the city and busing them to voting booths... tell me that isn't a little bit shady and underhanded?

Admittedly, I have not read everyone's comment on this thing, because...well... that's a pain in the ass, but

blaming the Republicans on the failures of electronic voting machines might be a little bit overboard, not to mention likely unprovable

How To Steal an Election With a Diebold Machine

And, lest we forget: "In 2003, the head of Diebold's parent company, a major backer of President Bush, wrote a fundraising letter to Republicans, saying he was 'committed to helping Ohio deliver its elector votes to the president next year.'"

This actually does show that cheating fucks do not always win.
Perhaps there is hope for all of us.

And who the fuck thought up electric ballot boxes anyway? Is there any other country in the world that does this?
As anybody who's ever used a piece of electrical equipment will know, there's no way this could possibly work better than pen and paper.
(Although its likely this is the reason they have them, hey?)

Is it due to speed of counting, because in the UK we use pen and paper and every vote is counted within about 15 hours of polls closing.
It takes days in the US

do you really think we are better off with Democrats in control? Personally i believe we are damned if we do and damed if we don't......SCREWED either way. Until we get the government back under the control of the PEOPLE and not the politicians, and their political mindfuck games we will always be screwed. I mean, think about it....why is it always a question of Republican and Democrat.....what ever happened be just plain old AMERICAN!!!!!!!!

FUCK politics man. NO politician today would take a stance of "Give me liberty or give me death", they would say "I'll take liberty, but if not then give me a minimum security prison where I could play golf all day and you can have what you want!"

Bravo. I think both parties are disgusting. Both parties play the public and their followers to where they're so numb in the head - they defend their party without any hope of accountability.

What happened to "United we stand, divided we fall?" Most of the human sheep divide themselves into Democrats or Republicans. Neither side is interested in understanding the other. It's simply grade school games of pointing fingers and taking sides. I doubt much of anything will ever get done in Congress regardless of who has the majority. It seems only the lobbyists and the politicians who've been paid off win with our current system.

It's too bad that those who are responsible for a budget don't take true responsibility and accountability for their position. They should only be paid their salary if they balance the budget otherwise, be paid minimum wage for their "efforts." Work for the people? I don't think any politician does. They work for themselves and their party. Period.

Christ, this "all politicians are assholes" shit is tiresome.

Mal, c'mon. You are supposed to make it as difficult as possible for people in the same party to vote. Why just last Tuesday I saw some Libertarians setting up barbed wire and trip lines in front of their party members' homes.

Reporting on these ugly incidents, mainstream journalists feel compelled to pretend that both parties are guilty in equal measure. An honest autopsy would demonstrate that the Grand Old Party, as it once deserved to be known, was responsible for the worst excesses, with very few exceptions.

OK, so that's an opinion story from a guy who writes for the New York Observer. And? It still doesn't change the news that was posted that day for that particular story regarding a Florida election. "Neither candidate received votes."

Once someone, or an organization, or a party is found guilty (and not just by asummption) for the Florida vote...then by all means - string 'em up. Until then, it's certainly OK to be suspicious....but let's not get the rope out just yet.

It's all cliches. There are 535 members of the Federal Congress, and thousands upon thousands of "politicians" in state houses and county and municipal offices. The idea that all of these people - or even most - are venal, responsibilty averse, lying cheats is just, plain stupid.

So, lemme ask you Gringo, how many "politicians" do you actually know?
