The Fox News roundtable was debating Colorado legislation that would allow women to carry concealed weapons to prevent sexual assault at colleges. Beckel was skeptical, and asked, "When's the last time you heard about rape on a college campus?"

"What?!" Kimberly Guilfoyle reacted.

"What are you talking about?" an indignant Eric Bolling said. "It's rampant."

"Oh, it's rampant?" Beckel asked. "Rapes on campus?!" Bolling responded. "Where?" Beckel wanted to know.

That's pretty bad...even for a FOX News correspondent.

The other news outlets were labeling him the 'liberal' Fox news correspondent also. I don't watch Fox (or any other) news, so I don't know the personalities, but it was a monumentally idiotic thing to say.

On the other hand, the thought of 10000 drunken, impulsive college students with firearms on a campus sounds like it could be not so good.

Actually, I think he misspoke, because after that he admits that DATE rape is a big problem on campus, and points out the silliness of "What, you're going to take out a gun and shoot your date?"

Because most rapes on campus, as with most rapes in the US in general, are by intimate partners or people the victim knows (and sometimes trusts), usually indoors. Walking around campus at night has a much lower chance of resulting in rape than going to a party on campus or going on a date.

So I THINK that's what he was trying to say. I THINK. Don't hold me to ittongue

I dunno.......those quotes look pretty clear to me.

I kind of got what Otoki got, too - maybe I just have more faith in the human race than I should wink

I'll say that I think it'd be hubris on my part to say "I know EXACTLY what he meant." However......come on, you know?

The part of me that suspects FOX of pulling this kind of shit makes me wonder if he was reading off a script.

I believe someone wrote about this a while back.

Oh for sure. It's absolutely idiotic that those words came out of his mouth. Then again, I think a lot of people think of "campus" as where the school buildings are, rather than the general area including student living, and "off campus" buildings are still considered generally part of the campus when discussing crime.

I'm not defending what he said at all, but I agree that in terms of walking around on campus, rape is much lower on my list of worries than when I walked past frat row on my way to class (before I figured out an alternate route).

That's actually one of my first thoughts. Playing the part of a "dumb, bumbling liberal who doesn't understand how hard the world really is", as well giving more credence the recent #Liberaltips2AvoidRape twitter shit. Yeah, sure he re-explained what he said, but Fox is well aware their viewers don't believe in fact checking or following up on statements made.

Besides all which, according to Google the last campus rape--like, violent stranger rape, the kind of jump-out-of-the-bushes rape that idiots believe is the norm--was four fucking days ago, jackass.

Yes you did. I missed it due to my random interval/spatial sampling of SG wink

I too had wondered if their 'liberal' 'correspondent' had been tasked with buffoonery. Perhaps he gets a bonus for sounding very stupid.

Damn I've now helped a 'liberal' conspiracy theory along...
