Tech-metallers Dillinger Escape Plan have officially begun work on the follow up to 2004's Miss Machine. Needless to say fans are grateful that they won't have to wait five years between albums again, however the new material will lack a key element of Dillinger's trademark sound. Earlier this month, the band bid farewell to drummer Chris Pennie, who left to play with Coheed and Cambria.
No need to worry, though. Dillinger has tapped reggae drummer and session man Gil Sharone to beat the skins on the new Dillinger recordings. Check out Gil's page; if anyone can play with the proficiency needed for the backbone of a Dillinger record, it's this guy. The band posted an update to fill everyone in on what's going on.
Know that what we are in the process of recording will be everything we have ever been capable of, and now more. This last year, and how we have gotten through it and to the place we are now, will define all of our lives for a long time.
We have overcome everything from multiple member changes in the early years, members suffering physical impairment or injury that has made it impossible to continue playing, and financial, physical, personal, and internal problems that many bands would never make it through. We take forever to put out records, and put everything we have into them.
.
Once again,Steve Evetts will be credited with engineering and production duties and the work in progress is called Ire Works. Look for the new disc this fall.
while gil sharone is an amazing drummer and fully capable of keeping that dillinger sound he is still not chris pennie. i still cant wait for the album though. i pretty much break my neck to miss machine and calculating infinity every time i listen to them.
i wonder why chris left though. especially for a band like coheed
As shitty as I am that Chris bailed the new video blog shows off some of Gil's chops and I'm sort of excited to have more of a jazz influence in the band.
COHEED? He quit to join FUCKING COHEED!!?!?!!? I thought Miss Machine kind of sucked too but still. That's like getting bored with your hot girlfriend so you dump her to fuck the ugly chick, just to see what it's like!
Why would Chris Shiflett join Foo Fighters? Why would Zack bail on Revelation Records to join up with Tom Morello, et. al., & sign with Epic? The answer, plainly, is cash. Straight-cash. C. Pennie must have bills to pay -- child support? hush-money to his gay lovers? (ok, ok, thinking about DEP makes my mind go all Buddyhead -- sorry) -- & being in C&C will make covering those much, much easier.
