Yes, this is true if you don't ever go out to clubs, bars, and others' homes where there is a lot of smoke in the air.

That's why you should promote the growing of THC free, legal Hemp. Save the economy of the south as everyone quits smoking. Plus there is the added benefit of more pot plants around. wink

Let's not forget the whole "coughing up black stuff for a week" stage.

You know, that never happened to me. Everyone kept warning me about that; I was nearly a pack-a-day smoker for a couple years before I quit. But once I quit: no black goo. No yellow or green goo, either.

Lucky me, eh?

I never had that either, and I also smoked nearly a pack a day for several years.

I don't so much miss smoke breaks for sociale reasons, but do miss the relaxing aspect of going outside, breathing fresh air, and generally enjoying my surroundings. The increased lung capacity I have now is pretty sweet, though.

They actually still have clubs and bars where people are allowed to smoke? I havnt lived in a city where smoking in enclosed public places was legal since before I was 12 years old.

People smoking inside would just seem strange.

Let's not forget getting fat again when you quit. Isn't that why a lot of girls start smoking, to keep thin? A friend of mine (a guy, admittedly) said he put on 20 pounds after he quit. I told him he was just a lazy bastard. He started running and lost 30 pounds.

Actually, I lost weight when I quit smoking.

What I miss most about smoking is smoke breaks at work. People know that you MUST have a smoke break every so often, no matter how busy the night is. Nonsmokers don't get those little 5 minute breaks. For a while after I quite, I would pretend that I still smoked juist so I could get a break and sit down for a couple minutes.

The other day I spent two hours before our store opened unpacking boxes with my boss. She took two ten-minute smoke breaks within the two hours. TWO smoke breaks!!! So I said "Hey, I'm tired and I'm gonna go sit down in the break room real quick." I kicked back for fifteen minutes and had a soda.

I came back to find that she'd taken me off the clock. mad

I quit (from a pack every month or so, down from 2 packs a day a few years back) last August, and it's really amazing how much better, overall, I feel. What really amazes me is how great the difference between one cigarette per day and no cigarettes per day is.

Of course, it's so amazing that I find myself slipping into those "rabid anti smoker" lectures with my smoker-friends, which I never enjoyed hearing while I smoked. Hell, I think of smokers in a very different light - it's weird how my opinion of smokers and smoking has changed so dramatically since I ceased to be one.

Anyway, if you smoke, I advise you to quit for a while and see how you like it. If you don't, go ahead a smoke again, but you owe it to yourself to see what it's like.

Told you.

My response to "I'm going for a smoke" from my co-workers is "no you're fucking not".

Yeah, it's called Europe.

A friend of mine who quit recently told me he got his sense of smell back and that as a smoker, he couldn't smell half the stuff he was smelling now.

Now I have to stop him from smelling every women who passes by him on the street.

I quit over a year ago. I sure as shit don't miss that wheezing thing I had going.

I also don't miss the horrible taste, smelling bad, thinking that every time I had a sore throat that it was definitely cancer, being addicted to something I hated, the ceaseless nagging for me to quit from my family and friends and giving money to those utter, utter bastards.

It's really nice to read how much my health has improved in one year.

I would be filled with rage. Did you give her a good talking to? Because that is so lame.

When I was a manager, I gave everyone short breaks, and they could do whatever the hell they wanted with that 5 minutes. But damn, I hated being a manager.

I quit last year, and didn't suddenly feel all magical and go-getting. But I did have more cash, and smelled a lot less rank, so it was worth it. The lack of cancer is good too.

not smoking helps me have harder, longer, sweatier, rougher, slap happier sex rather than wheezing after a minute or so of sweet, sweet lovin'. that's the only reason i need not to light up.

no one's pointed out no more stinky clothes, hair, breath, living room (if you smoke indoors). and yes, probably less laundry. consider it mentioned.

Yeah, I miss that. Smoke breaks were always a good way to be less awkward at social events, too; I'm a lot more awkward now that I have to hang out and just interact the whole time. Now what am I supposed to do while I'm talking? Gosh.

Thats what beer is for.

g) need to find new ways to START conversations. (no more "do you have a light?") wink

Again, beer.

Or am I the only one who carries a bottle of Guinness in each pocket?

When I was a smoker I used to take those five minute breaks every hour. The one non-smoker that worked under me at the time asked for "breathing" breaks, which I allowed. I know that some smokers see their addiction as being justification for special and exclusive accomodation at work.

I know I need to quit, but right now, smoking is healthier for me than not smoking, pulling a nutty on a retard customer, and losing my job. Which would make me want a cig.

A vicious cycle, it is.
