... Seriously, we're still talking about this?
I did papers on this idea 5 years ago.
That's precious.
The conservatives have been beating this drum for a long time. I remember it back in the Reagan days, when anyone who made the mistake of making fun of a senile sitting president was dubbed "liberal" as if that is a bad thing. Move forward 20 years and the same thing is being thrown about whenever someone dares to say anything about the principle-less conservatives that run the government, the corporations and the media. Jamila is right that in the US most media outlets are owned by well-known conservatives like Murdoch.
Sid, that was kinda the point. It's one of those wonderful little falsehoods that, despite all the evidence against it, keeps coming back because some people still believe it simply because of how often it's been repeated. Sort of like how Reagan single-handidly defeated the Soviet Union, or how trickle-down economics actually works, or McCain's secret black baby.
I'd be interested to see how many, if any, major media outlets are owned by a Liberal, or hell, even a non-Conservative.

You have a corporate globalist media.
The adjoining byline, product placement, peer pressure, brand name, and tag is only there to more efficiently direct your consumption of it based upon which set of pre-conditioning set root with you.
Sometimes it makes sense for the mass media to make hollow overtures to well meaning idiot people who identify themselves as liberals, sometimes it makes sense for them to make hollow overtures to well meaning idiot people who identify themselves as conservatives - but it always always always makes sense for them to make overtures to tunnel visioned and barely discretionary consumers.
It has all of the authenticity of a WWF pay-per view spectacular.
They trot out fake debates, problems, solutions, values to embrace, phony saviors, controlled opposition, and a whole horde of characters that amount to little more than ambient sound, carnival barkers, and halftime shows.
If you are the kind of dumbass that thinks that the same media that lied you into the Iraq war is suddenly "on your side" and is presenting a fraud like Obama as a major or legitimate threat to them, pick up some Uncle Remus and find out about rabbits and their pleas to be spared the torture of being thrown into briar patches....
If you are the kind of dumbass that thinks the media is against you or the troops or America or wealth accumulation or mascot/tangible interface Bush or whatever it is that you feel so picked upon about, why for the love of fuck do they always go along with it ?
I'll tell you why - We are stupid, apathetic, are prone to identity politics, file into rah-rah team pep squad so long as the sales pitch and rhetoric is good, and above all have short term memories - all of which fit conveniently into 4 and 8 year term election cycles.
You can get more socialism, expanded Federal government, statism, anti-gun legislation, nannyism, internationalism, taxes, bigger budgets, etc... when you've pre-conditioned the public to think that heroic fraud candidate X is against the above and has a "R" next to their name on the ballot box.
You can get more deregulation, corporate handouts, Wall Street bailouts, entitlement gutting, tax system gaming, expanded police state, drug law enforcement, minorities in prison, new wars and military budgets, etc... when you've pre-conditioned the public to think that heroic fraud candidate X is against the above and has a "D" next to their name on the ballot box.
It is like collectively no one has any discernment or ability to evaluate facts, only parrot the ad campaign that led them to their false polarity.
I am fucking sick of it.
And for god's sakes will you people quit aligning with and perpetuating this fucking outrageous undermining racket.

It's nice to see that you have such a nice life that you have to scream at us for not having (or really wanting) your life(style, or lack thereof).

The media put words in Bush's mouth? They wrote his State of the Union address?
