I love Momma Flux. Not in "that" way, of course. But her wisdom runs deep.

Is she hot?

Totally.

Did you hit him in the head a lot when you were both little kids? Or was he adopted?

Watching this happen must have been like watching soldiers in World War I charge fortified trenches stacked with machine guns; you know how it's going to end but you can't get anyone to listen to you even though they've seen the results countless times before.

Yeah, the Democrats have a better chance with Obama, but we are going to fucking lose yet again. I mean, you honestly don't think Obama, A BLACK MAN, will rally the right wing, inbred, bible-thumping Republican base and get those evangelical fucks off the couch?!?!?!? Are you out of your mind?

Maybe in very small circles, and certainly, I'm sure it bothers a lot of people who won't admit it publicially... but the media is not going to support racist attacks. It won't give them any legitimacy by paying any attention to them (except MAYBE Fox.) If racist attcks are made, it'll only hurt the people making them.

It's not that kind of thing that's troubling. It's the little bullshit stuff like the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth from 2004. It's Al Gore being boring or saying he invented the internet. This is the stuff that makes the democratic canidates lose. This stuff works very well against them if they're unlikable people because they can't defend against it very well and Republicans are very good at dishing it out.

My parents are fair-tax-loving, Neal-Boortz-listening, Southern Christian folks who have voted Republican in every election since Reagan.

They cast votes for Obama this morning in the grand ol' state of Georgia.

So as a representative of middle America, I can assure you: NO.

As Momma Flux said today:

I can't see a lot of Republicans voting for Obama in November, just on philosophical grounds, but I think they would have a sense of pride that he's president - something Dubya and Bill Clinton can't even engender in much of their own parties, never mind the opposition.

Methinks Momma Flux is right about ol' Huck. I just hope McCain doesn't feel obligated to pick him as his running mate.

From what I can gather (which isn't much, I'll admit) it looks like Obama might still be okay despite Hillary getting California. If New Mexico goes his way, won't this still be a race?

Yeah, he's definitely still in the race. He's not too far behind Hillary in the overall delegate count. And there are still some other big states to come. Like yours, for instance.

Looking at the states Obama won and the numbers by which he won them, I don't see how anyone can look at these results and say he can't win a general eletion MUCH easier than Hillary.

But as you say, Reaper, these are the Dems we're talking about here.

All kidding aside, this is about who will lead the free world not social or generational divisions. If we expect to live in the "land of the free and all that jazz" then perhaps we should consider voting for the best candidate, regardless of which demographic they happen to fit.

A little off topic but I am curious. Do citizens of the USA really believe that who ever they elect will lead the "free" world? Or does the "free" world only consist of the USA?

I couldn't agree with you more about about calling Al Gore a moron...that is single handedly the best comment for him. Just look at his long list of moronic acts
*Noble peace prize
*academy award
*Supporter of Kyoto protocol
*supporter of gay rights
*objector to wars
*open critic of bush admin
*co sponsor of genocide act
*One of the only few politicians that has apologized and explained any controversy over his decisions and actions that have looked questionable.

And if, you consider him a moron purely on the grounds he lost the election to Bush, then three words, "Florida ballot count."

He has achieved more in his life than you and I put together. If you can't respect that then say knowing at all. To call someone a moron in face of so much evidence to the contrary only shows who the actual moron is.

Yeah, I agree that you should have left Gore off your "moron" list. Otherwise, this was an excellent column with an excellent summary.

I think for the dems, it's going to come down to the back-room dealings of the super-delegates. Clinton and Obama will run neck and neck on pledged delegates until the convention, where the super-delegates will have to swing this thing one way or the other. It will be interesting to see if the real power-hitters in the party decide to commit suicide once again.

On the phone with a buddy just now, I mentioned this thread and he said, "Being holier than thou is built into the very fabric of America." It is just as obnoxious to many of us Americans as it is to the rest of you around the world.

Yeah, and really, all you need to envision for the first right wing attack ad is the picture of Obama that you're using for your profile picture along with the quote from his autobiography about using cocaine for a long time, and that'll about do it.

And by the way, to hell with Middle America.

As I recall Obama was not even around during the voting for the war, so although he says he is against it and has always been, there is no record of it because of how new he is. So for all we know it's just more jibberish for votes.....works to his benefit but does it to ours???

Wellllllllllllllllll, you're the one from Illinois. It seems as if it would be an awfully easy task to find out about his local voting record, as well as speeches or statements he has made at various local happenings. This could all be gleaned (potentially) from something as simple as a trip to the library. Then you would take this information and decide whether or not his actions and statements around and during that time would lead you to believe whether he would vote for or against the US action in Iraq.

...and technically, as for being "not even around," he was a State Senator at the time. He was not present for the vote, but please do not play into shallow Rovian talking points by bringing it up. Non-presence for the vote does not and should not invalidate one's opinion on the Iraq action.

Other than that, I'm not sure why you're seeing boogeymen so large it takes three question marks to hide them.

Gore did not deserve the Nobel Peace Prize anyway. It is to be awarded:

" to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between the nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses."

He did not meet a single criterion for this. Actually, quite the oposite. By scare-mongering about global warming, he has only given governments one more thing to fight over, even though the accusations he makes are very much so out of context and unbased in scientific proof.
