Quite true. I'm both a feminist and a vegan and I kind of want to choke that guy.

Way to reinforce that aggressive stereotype.

If it's any consolation, with her being vegan and all, there's a high likelihood that she wouldn't eat his balls after she killed him.

I am a feminist male.

Generally, it happens when you actually have at least a basic grasp of what feminism means.

I jest. Any guy can call himself a feminist male. Often as a ploy to get laid. Sometimes it runs deeper than that.

Just wondering, but what is your own personal definition of "feminism"?

I have been in relationships with women that call themselves feminists. I just saw them as strong females. But I have also come across women that somehow don't see that men a women are in fact different. I consider the first to be what a feminist is. Still it's woman's role, one that all women should take.

Nice article.

Pity about all those people who commented as soon as they read th word "feminism", rather than reading the content.

The whole problem with the word 'feminism' is that it elicits such reactions. It's a so-called loaded word. Something like 'egalitarian attitude' (to quote the article) might be a better way to make the point, because 'feminism' has negative connotations.

It's sort of like 'atheist' versus 'non-theist.' They both mean the same thing by strict definition, but 'atheist' conjures up ideas of angry god-haters. It's become so confused in so many people's minds, that it's best to use 'non-theist' instead.

oh i agree. im a total minist when women discriminate against me in hiring practices, put limits on what condoms i can buy, or whn i can get a vasectomy, force me or another man to work for 3/4 of what a woman would in the same job, or claim that i cant do certain tasks because im not womanly enough.

on the other hand, that doesnt happen to me very often. your milage may vary.

BitchPhD, what's with all the "Science proves..." statements? You should know better, PhD or not.

The very first line in the linked article is: "Feminism boosts sexual satisfaction for both men and women, a new study suggests."

Because that makes null every finding in the study. Of course! How could I be so blind!

Um, I'm not sure how to interpret your comment. I don't quite get it as a joke, and it's certainly not correct in a literal sense.

Anyway, to clarify, 'proves' is a really strong word. It should be used with extreme care. Small-scale surveys like this one need to be repeated and refined before they do anything more than 'suggest' a link between things. The same goes for most scientific studies that you read about. Newspapers, etc., are traditionally very bad about jumping to conclusions when summarizing published studies, so it's especially important to maintain skepticism when reading such things.

I really wish someone who has access to the published study would pop up on this board! (I doubt this will happen...)

EDIT: for anyone seriously interested in feminism, the journal of origin for this study, "Sex Roles," looks like it's full of good reading material.

And don't try and tell me that there are things you aren't womanly enough to do.

two pretty unrelated points to feminism.

women dont want to work at game stop? fine. women barred from working at gamestop? not fine.

me not wanting to do womenly things (lets say a career in interior design or cosmotology, if were going to stereotype) fine. me being discriminated against in doing those careers? not fine.

my larger point being that there is rarely any women are better/more valuable than men employment or health concerns in america, but there are atill men are better than women concerns. but when that flips ill be against that too. i can be for empowerment of women and men at the same time, dude.
