It's okay, I'm sure feminists and vegans don't want to be associated with you either.

Quite true. I'm both a feminist and a vegan and I kind of want to choke that guy.

It still astounds me that there are people existing in modern society who equate feminists with man-hating dykes who demand "their boyfriends' balls". I guess I just don't surround myself with idiots, so it comes as a surprise when I read an article like this and then see comments that sound like something Al Bundy would say. Only, not ironic.

Seriously, two guys have mentioned their balls in their posts already. You do realize that putting the one thing that separates you from women on such a pedastal kinda makes it look like you think you're better than them?

and it also shows just how much fear of castration some men have...seriously, if you're that afraid to lose your balls why let people know you have them? If you pretend you've got nothing for them to take how can they take it from you? I keep my balls in a jar in a safe right next to my first edition hardy boys #1 and my johnny appleseed trading card game deck. whatever

being a feminist has nothing to do with your balls just like it has nothing to do with your ovaries...biological differences should have nothing to do with the decision to respect someone, whether you love them or not.

But it doesn't say ANYTHING about respecting the male partner. How could you read it any other way? Also, it has been my experience that women who proclaim most loudly that they are feminists are the least effective in getting their point across. If you are a feminist and run your life as such (with, I guess, respect and blahblahblah) then you will attract people who will also respect you. If you're with a shitty guy, it's your own fault. Once again this article is about laying blame.
I'm sure I could run a study that finds that women who respect men's POV's and has their interests at heart would be a very satisfying relationship fir the man.
Can you even fucking IMAGINE if a study was done on women who "respect" their men? Good God the house would come down...

I assume the study gives a definition of feminism because without one this doesn't really mean much ... or much interesting anyway ... I didn't find a definition in the link

I read this as an obvious statement and it comes as no surprise. If you would rather shoot your left nut off than associate with someone who sees herself as your equal then maybe you would be doing the world a favor if you went ahead and took care of both of them so that the world is not at risk of having any more women whose self esteem is shattered by a patriarchal jackass going around like ann coultier.

I seriously hope that no woman on this planet would consider this specific man her equal. Even for the non-feminists, that's setting the bar a little low, don'tcha think?

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I think it goes without saying that a woman who respects herself respects her partner, so long as said partner is worth respecting. And this study indicates that the relationship IS staisfying for the man, unless the man only wants a woman to worship him and do his laundry, in which case, he should invest in a puppy and a maid.

I respect myself, and I respect my husband. I respect his point of view, his thoughts and his beliefs. And he respects mine. I suppose if you asked either of us, we'd tell you we have a very satisfying relationship.

Wait. How does that make them different from a feminist?

Don't tell me you've bought into the corporatized notion that you have to hate men or be burly or confrontational to be a feminist. Surely feminism doesn't involve simple female self-dignity. Surely you don't feel threatened by women who consider themselves feminist? Surely you don't feel the need to assert your manhood to counteract the notion that feminism is somehow militant in its hatred of men?

BitchPhD, what's with all the "Science proves..." statements? You should know better, PhD or not.

The very first line in the linked article is: "Feminism boosts sexual satisfaction for both men and women, a new study suggests."

Sheesh, it's kinda obvious. How compelling is a push-over and how much fun is someone who is insecure about themselves? Of course confident women with self esteem and their partners have more fulfilling sex lives.

But remember guys, just because they're every bit your equal doesn't mean they've not been bad, naughty girls.

Pity about all those people who commented as soon as they read th word "feminism", rather than reading the content.

For any subscribers to "Sex Roles," here is the study: Sex Roles link

I'm not a subscriber, so I'm not able to see how they controlled for other reasons two individuals with egalitarian gender views might experience those relationship benefits. For example, two individuals who share such gender views could be more likely than a randomly selected control group of "non-feminists" to share other interests and views, like political, religious, and social, which could also account for better relationships as they were measured. From the abstract and the Live Science article, it's not possible to tell how or if the authors controlled for these possibilities.

I also can't tell how they selected the sample groups, other than those who "self-reported as feminists" and those who didn't. Since "feminist" is a loaded term, I'm assuming there were specific questions used to measure the participants' attitudes, though this isn't stated in the abstract.

These sorts of questions (regardless of whether the specific questions I brought up were addressed by the authors), and others, illuminate why individual studies don't usually "prove" anything in science. This study is interesting and valuable as a data point, but not definitive proof of anything, notwithstanding BitchPhD's claims to the contrary.

shit, i was way off.

i thought black people lived in ghettos because they were super thrifty and bad at real-estate, the poor were just über-bohemians, and the Jews took part in the Holocaust because they were anti-birth control and asked for some help with controlling their population. not because humanity sucks.

learn something new everyday.
