This week I'm taking a break from writing about people who are already famous to focus on someone who isn't famous yet, but possibly should be. She possesses a moxie and general sense of derring-do that just warms my obnoxious prank-loving heart.

I'm talking about Pia Haraldsen, whose Ali G-style interview of New York City Council Member James Oddo--and his insanely overblown reaction--made me and 6,000 other youtube viewers giggle with schadenfreude-y delight:

I almost wish Fox News hadn't interviewed her, because now more people will know who she is and the amount of fun she can have in this country will be limited, like what happened to the infamous Sascha Baron Cohen. But most politicians are too confused by the internets to follow a phenomenon like this, and it should also help her out that old white men are much more likely to trust a hot blonde Norwegian "reporter" than the hirsute walking stereotype that is Borat.

It's too early to tell if this chick is the next Baron Cohen or just an amusing emulator, but I am hopeful, and I'm trying to figure her out. It doesn't help that most of her other segments on YouTube are in some crazy gibberish language called "Norwegian." Her glamor-shot heavy website is also confusing; either she is engaged in a brilliant self-parody, or the chick is actually kind of lame. Hey, Norwegians (I know there are some of you on here.) Your take on this would be much appreciated. Read all that craziness and report back here with your verdict (please?)

Also, I know this is going a bit off topic, but since when did "punk'd" make its way into common newsreader parlance? The Fox News people keep saying it in their interview with her and this is not ok. Why don't we just let Ashton Kutcher write the next edition of the Oxford English Dictionary while we're at it? Shit.

Anyway, her statement on the incident is something I can get behind:

I think Mr. Oddo's reaction was quite normal and I've always been fond of men with a temperament," the heavily-accented Haraldsen said, adding that she wouldn't mind having Oddo as a "rumba and salsa" partner on "Dancing with the Stars."

Let's hope that this comedienne knows what she's doing. We need some more funny-on-purpose Youtube celebs to balance out the Chris Crockers of the world. And I'm not gonna lie, I am especially happy when a woman turns out to be funny; when the Sarah Silvermans outweigh the Margret Chos, we will be significantly closer to that magical utopia of femiladyist radness where tampons grow on trees and men exist solely for cunnilingus and foot rests, or something.

It's only sad because it's so short...but then he's not exactly a "Top Dawg" so he can afford to react like that...can't wait to see her interview John Kerry...she looks like she could withstand a few zaps from a taser pretty well.

I don't really think it was that funny. She asked two stupid questions before he realized it was bogus. Granted, his reaction is a little inappropriate for a public official, but how exactly is one supposed to react when they realize they're the butt of a joke and their time is being wasted?

It's not the fact that it's inappropriate for a public official (and saying that is an understatement on its own without adding "a little" to the start of it). The point is that he over-reacted something awful.
And made threats that, would he have acted on them, would have lost him his job and might lead to jail time.

On the other hand, way to go, Oddo, for reinforcing a major stereotype: all New Yorkers need to be in anger management.

Loved the video, which was actually seen by about 600.000 people, if not more.
But Pia Haraldsen does not possess "a moxie and general sense of derring-do", nor is she a "comedienne" in any way -- she first became famous in her home country Norway, for being a glamorous jetset airhead, who wears Gucci but can´t spell it, and was hired to this satire show as a foreign correspondent, exactly because of her infinite braindeadness.

Somewhere along the way the writers came up with this interview concept, and placed one of those spy-shop wireless earbuds in her ear, so everything she says is actually fed to her by the director, who is an acclaimed writer and comedian.

Take the earbud out and she´d probably believe that african-americans aren´t american citizens. And worse.

She deserves fame just as much or as little as Paris Hilton does.

I hate dumb shit like this. I mean, the guy's reaction was over the top, but I've never found this type of thing funny at all. There really isn't much talent involved in asking people stupid questions.

I'll have to look this up. That guy has no business being in any powerful position. What an ass.

you had me up until "when the Sarah Silvermans outweigh the Margret Chos, we will be significantly closer to that magical utopia of femiladyist radness where tampons grow on trees and men exist solely for cunnilingus and foot rests, or something."

I fail to see how someone who goes out with Jimmy Kimmel is going to further any sort of femi-anything. Maybe Jimmy did his footrest act after she's done jumping up and down on the trampoline without a bra.

Pia does work for a humor show playing the hot and stupid blonde. She allso does other television shows and she seems pretty bright when doing those.

I think her next show is something like " how to become a famous persion".

Slogan of the television programme she is working for is: The only news programme that NEVER CHECK FACTS!

Norwegians are probably the most ironic people in the world. That's gotten me a lot of trouble at times. (Americans dont get a joke)
