I had not heard about this specifically but late last year I read the Shock Doctrine by Naomi Cline... It goes through the detail about how the power monied elite (of any party), use any means they need to to shock a population into a new paradigm which lets they reset all the rules in their economic favor.
This "kind of stuff" to borrow from sweetzen, is happening in almost every significant country with any potential economic benefit left to squeze from it.... It's all all about using the Friedman'esque radical right philosophy that from their perspective, only the truly wealthy have any right for true freedom. And from their warped view, truly wealthy is not hollywood or basketball rich, it's oil, war profiteering wealth... The kind that is so big you simply can't spend it all...
Unfortunatly, the real plan is to use the now post peek oil period to radically shift society after society into a new order... subservient order.... and truly bring about a 2 class society worldwide...
When you're so worried about where your next meal and rent money is coming from, you tend to have little time to spend on frivilous things like protesting and blogging.... We all have to wwake up before this happens and it's too late...
